Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy.
It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.”
they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception.
And the results are wild.
participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile.
they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence.
the paper revealed a brutal paradox:
the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain.
if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing.
this creates a dangerous systemic loop.
the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions.
meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse.
top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else.

Indians are very simple creatures.
Two fundamental concepts guide their behaviour and every action.
Jugaad: a clever, improvised fix that solves a problem using whatever is easily available.
Izzat: the honour, respect, and dignity a person or family has in the eyes of others.
The key difference here is that the pursuit of these concepts has no guiding moral code. Honesty doesn't even come into it.
Westerners operate on an unspoken agreement of reciprocity. One good turn deserves another, a rising tide raises all ships, etc.
To the Indian mind, this is just weakness to be exploited.
In the above video, he is farming izzat by showing off an act of jugaad.
He has found a "clever life hack", is sharing it with his fellow countrymen, and in doing so gets to simultaneously brag about how clever he is while reaping the social credit.
The fact that this is screwing over the genuinely needy and vulnerable people these systems were set up for never even crosses their minds.
It's all about getting ahead no matter the cost.
For them, it's all about the arrival.
For us, we consider the journey equally as important.
Understand this and you understand Indians.

These places exist because actual struggling Canadians and churches are willing to help those in need. Instead, they’re being treated like a buffet by people who can clearly afford shoes and a phone.
