I’m extremely thankful to get an opportunity to finish my story. Doesn’t happened every day. Now the take it or leave it deal they gave me on the graphic novel is bonkers, most people would have probably turned it down.
I’ve done enough big projects that I believed I could do it, still do. It does feel like they didn’t want the novel to be a success so they limited where it could go, no access to publishers and the list goes on. I’m very limited in my options.
I think that was the only way they let me do the novel was to limit the eyes on it. The novel would have been a New York Times bestseller and I would have been able to pick a publisher to help if that would have happened. Then I could just focus on writing the thing.
This is all to say…
Warner 100% like most networks don’t want egg on their face, and they are afraid if a streamer gets that movie that it would become a success. That’s a real thing. Don’t try to make sense of it, because it won’t make sense. None of what they do makes sense. Explaining them to people is impossible too. I hate that these filmmakers are experiencing this because this shouldn’t even be an issue.
This was basically my theory since it was confirmed they were refusing counter offers.
Olan Rogers experienced a similar thing where WB REFUSED to let him crowdfund a Final Space graphic novel.
Zaslav is driven more by Ego than money.
