WTF, $3000 Samsung TV has an always-on mic, automatic content recognition, geo tracking, network mapping, and ships your data to Samsung + 400 partners. Bro Rooted a brand-new 2025 Samsung TV after noticing absurdly targeted ads. Firmware was locked down, so zero-days it was. Got a root shell. then found: always-on voice service, ACR, geo, full telemetry pipeline, and four separate DRM systems. This isn’t a bug, It’s the product bro.
i own a relatively new (2025) samsung tv. i kept getting weirdly targeted ads. i tried reversing the firmware but it was aes encrypted and no keys unless tear it apart and do uart/jtag magic. zero days it is. root shell on new samsung TVs! discovered PRIVACY HORROR. write up?

FT comments never miss. I don’t think I’ve read such a rational analysis of the situation we’re in for a long time.
I've been in France since 2002 and have never seen the streets so violent nor the politics so extreme. From the sacking of the supermarket on my street to the prospect of Présidente Le Pen, here's me @FT including thoughts from 2 French Nobel laureates as.ft.com/r/addcad57-0f9d-4e…

Did you know? Britain is getting HAMMERED by a storm. Yet the Government may be about to shut down public swimming pools and car washes. Because of DROUGHT. Yes, really (it’s nearly November). Ministers will decide next week whether to impose "non-essential use bans" across southern England. The first in 20 YEARS. Businesses could be forced to close. We are a country famous for its rain. We should not be forced to RATION water. England has not opened a single new reservoir since the 1990s. Gov. must take emergency action & approve new reservoirs TODAY. What do you think?
Exclusive: Public swimming pools and car washes in parts of southern England face closure within days because of severe drought. The Defra secretary Angela Eagle will decide next week whether to impose “non-essential use bans” in West Sussex and Somerset at the request of two water companies. She has sped up the process because of severely low reservoir levels. It would be the first time the bans have been used in Britain for 20 years. The restrictions would stop any businesses from using excessive water for non-essential services. They would effectively shut down all car washes and swimming pools in the areas and business owners may be eligible for compensation. Defra officials believe that without heavy rain this winter, reservoirs won’t return to normal levels before next summer. Story: telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/10…

In retrospect the NSA backdooring all of the hardware seems to have been a poor choice.
Replying to @Suhail
I’ve heard several OAI people say there are unfixable bugs in hardware that are exploitable by AI models directly speaking machine code so even if we could solve software that’s not enough. We need defense to move faster than offense if that’s even possible we may just have a new normal that requires adapting to insecure software (bank transfers require going into a branch and taking a dna test 🤣😬)

Day 1 of a 30 day experiment: sit still every morning and do nothing. Twenty years alone in a booth has made me good at staying busy. In the King, Warrior, Magician, Lover model, the Warrior can be avoidance. That's the part I'm good at. @boardyai checks in each afternoon.

🚨NEW: The Online Safety Act has been a failure, according to a new report from Ofcom. Ofcom have found "no significant change" in children encountering harmful content since the law came into effect last July. This is despite the signifigant threats to free speech and privacy.

Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

This week a council approved a solar farm on two hundred and thirty-five acres of grazing, and the family who had run cattle on it for generations said it would probably finish them. The panels will be there for forty years. The cattle were there for four hundred. The land is not the developer's. It belongs to an estate or a pension fund, and the developer offers a rent per acre no cow has ever earned. The farmer gets a letter. The council, told to triple solar by a minister who has never kept a beast, finds that the loss of a herd is not a planning consideration. So the field goes under glass. In Britain a solar array produces for about one hour in nine. It makes most in June at noon, when the country needs it least, and nothing on a January evening, when it needs it most, so a gas station is kept idling behind every one. The panels are made in China from polysilicon out of a province the government will not name. They lose output every year they stand there, and at the end there is no plan and no bond for taking them away. A quarter of a million square metres of glass, aluminium and copper cable, in a field, with a thirty-year lease and a company that will not exist when it ends. Under the panels the grass dies for want of light, the soil compacts under the plant, and the hedges go because the fence has to be electric and the fence has to be straight. The sheep in the brochure are for the photograph. The cattle were a solar panel already. Grass takes the light, the cow converts it, and the output is beef, every day of the year, on no cable, no subsidy and no inverter, for as long as there is rain. They have replaced a power station that makes dinner with one that works on a sunny afternoon and sits dead the rest of the time, and the family who ran the first one are being evicted to make room for the second.

Looks like selling Royal Mail to a Czech billionaire worked out every bit as well as selling our water system to an Australian investment bank and our steel industry to an Indian multinational

“The great materialistic progress which we have venerated for so long is on the verge of bankruptcy. We can no longer believe that we are born into this world to accumulate wealth and abandon ourselves to mortal pleasures. We see the dangers and realize that we have been exploited for centuries. We were told the twentieth century was the most progressive that the world has ever known, but unfortunately the progression was in the direction of self-destruction.” — Manly P. Hall

Far from improving grades and attainment, the creeping use of screens across the UK's classrooms is a clear and present safeguarding nightmare, causing children an array of physical and developmental problems. A bold, forward thinking government would apply an emergency handbrake to the use of screens across British schools and only re-introduce them in the limited number of cases where educational benefit is genuinely shown to outweigh proven, observable harm. Brilliant work from @safe_screens and @HP4SaferScreens in bringing this issue to the forefront.

We could be on the brink of energy rationing. We are heading into a winter where we could have no gas. One successful cyberattack against our grid could lead to gas blackouts for millions. The effects of this would be disastrous. Factories would shut down. People would lose their jobs. Families would be unable to keep their homes warm. So, surely the Government has been building up the national reserve… right? No. Other European countries see this problem and are working to solve it. Poland has 55 days of gas storage. Guess how many we have? *Seven* days. At a high estimate. Some reports say we could have TWO. Yet successive governments have done NOTHING. How could they be so naïve? Gov must ACT NOW to stop energy rationing this winter. So, do you agree?

Average cost of U.S. diesel is £1.24 per litre. That’s so unacceptable to Americans that Trump has lifted Russian Oil embargo’s to drive down prices in the USA. In the UK we’re £2 a litre & we’ve been offered a tool on google to compare prices that are all too high.
