These two amazing young women (Jade and Chantelle) have both been supported by our team at The Maggie Oliver Foundation for several years now. They’ve both come a long, long way since the first time we spoke…. This short film created in collaboration with @DavidMcCollom of DMC Media is a ‘must watch’, link is below. After childhoods overshadowed by the most horrific sexual abuse, their trauma was increased ten fold because they were blamed, judged, criminalised, isolated and abandoned by the state - police, social services, crown prosecution service, health services. The list just goes on…. We’ve been fighting alongside both girls for several years to ensure they are no longer alone, that they are heard, as they continue to fight against the powerful institutions for the justice and care they were denied as children, and for #Accountability for those who failed them so badly. We shared a few tiny snapshots of their journeys in this short film which we played at our 2026 Annual Ball in May. As it played, the whole room came to a total standstill. You could hear a pin drop - and afterwards there was a standing ovation for their bravery, for their willingness to share their stories and for their dignity! I want to give a HUGE shoutout and special Thankyou also to our long standing supporter and amazing filmmaker @DavidMcCollom of DMC Media. He is now also really an ‘honorary member’ of our team who has been with us from the very start, even when we were a fledgling charity at our drop in centre in Rochdale! David has had his own horrific but inspirational journey through life, following a potentially life destroying incident that almost cost him his life. However, through his incredible bravery and determination he transformed his own ‘pain into power’ and has since made some incredible films, documentaries and I’m so grateful we found him.
