I’d agree - the lessons I’ve seen that were most effective were crystal clear. It was obvious what we were doing and why.

I've observed a lot of lessons. The good ones I remember well are always so simple. There's flow and an enjoyment. I often read about teaching and wonder why it needs to be so complicated?

Did a session today on Book Studies. I've read comments that these aren't useful Like any of this kind of thing, it's about purpose/process. Done well, it can more insightful, more inclusive and more useful than any assessments or test And how much time do we dedicate to those?

Sometimes as a headteacher there can be the worry that if you give praise to one cohort or staff team, that there will be resentment from another. And so praise loses meaning. The truth is, that throughout the year, there will be pressure points and commendations for all.

Quite liked the fact that as a church school head, we didn't have to worry about providing Halloween 'fun'.

Sometimes it feels like the only people who champion early years, are the people who work in early years. Why don’t all teachers talk about it more?

Looking forwards to hosting this session after a busy half term. A great chance to quickly capture outcomes for all pupils, in and out of books.
Standalone 'Book Looks' can be notoriously time-consuming, with little strategic or developmental impact. For any busy, class-based subject leader, there has to be a better way! In this free session, we'll show you how to perform focused book evaluations, with no report writing, same day feedback and big picture strategic analysis. Innovative school leaders welcome. Do we need to think more inclusively? 'Progress' in line with national, rather than relative progress from individual starting points? The SENDco monitors 'inclusion' rather than subject leaders or SLT? Talking about 'broad and balanced' but focusing on English and Maths?

Teaching and headship can be joyous. Such a shame that my timeline seldom reflects this.

Healthy and sustainable school leadership is challenging. With increased accountability and workload, how do busy senior, subject and SEND leaders find the time to learn and grow? We've create a free school leadership group on Facebook called 'Around the Moon - adventures in school leadership'. It's a place where we funnel information, articles, blogs, quotes and resources for all leaders, into one place. Join today facebook.com/groups/aroundth… nautilus.education🦈

That moment of realisation When the reception children ask, 'You mean we have to come here every day?' And so you tell them that it's the weekend in 3 days. But they don't quite understand '3 days' or what a weekend may be. Best not to attempt half-terms and school years.

Back from Kuala Lumpur and @Bett_show Asia Collaborations and conversations with global educators that have inspired. Thanks to @BritishCouncil @biztradegovuk @besatweet @KemPendidikan In a world seeking AI solutions, this trip affirmed that the most important resource will only ever be the teacher. Prioritise skillsets and pedagogy, before considering what comes next. Observe better, lead stronger. #teachers #nautilushq #properyorkshireedtech #bettasia

All welcome to this session. I like this one because we start with a nice, focused lesson visit before a ‘walk’ or sequence. I guess we can try to avoid using the word ‘observation’, or we can just do it better. All about people and pedagogy. #NautilusHQ #ProperYorkshireEdtech
Learning walks are a nice idea, but all too often they can become another standalone monitoring exercise rather than a genuine developmental opportunity. In our 'Ultimate Learning Walk' webinar, we'll deconstruct the humble drop-in and consider what a good lesson visit can look like, how much insight can be gathered, and how to provide supportive, same day feedback. A timely session for any busy senior, subject or SEND leader. Fri 2 Oct 10-11:30 + recording Learn more - book my seat my.demio.com/ref/MRWd8fmLQOD…

Whilst changes to inspection are welcome, it feels knee jerk, lacking a bigger strategy. Any curriculum reforms must come first before we decide to inspect the application in schools. This includes SEND from the start.
