Hear Bill's example and ask yourself where your next yes needs conditions.

He took the keys to every car and gave the motel desk manager his number in case of a problem.
If the room got damaged, the boys would all pay for it.
They agreed to all three.
Care and accountability can exist in the same answer.
My mentor, attorney Bill Bannister, tried never to tell his sons no just because he could.
After high school graduation they wanted a motel room with their buddies, and he knew there would probably be drinking.
So he said yes with three conditions.
You can say yes without saying yes to everything.
Sometimes the most responsible yes comes with conditions, boundaries and expectations.
That is how we create room for responsibility instead of removing it.

Episode 30 of The Straight Line to Success with David Sanford Wyatt is available today.
In part two of our conversation, Bill shares how he prepared for that case. I highly recommend you listen.

You can know the law and still need someone to teach you the details of a case.
That takes humility, which means you put your ego aside so you can win.
When you ask someone to teach you, you ask for their time and knowledge. Respect that and show up ready to work.
Bill is my mentor, and he made a massive move.
Experienced attorneys told him they were too busy to help. So he called a special agent named Ben, who came to Greenville and taught him for two weeks, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Attorney Bill Bannister needed help with his first complex tax prosecution.
You do not have to hide what you still need to learn.

Bill called it a real learning process. When you do not know, you ask the people who know.
More from this conversation is coming soon. You do not want to miss it.
To prove one insurance policy purchase, Bill subpoenaed the president of the Kansas City Royals. A U.S. Marshal served him at a game.
The next day, a Kansas City lawyer offered to send the custodian of the records instead. Bill had never heard the term.
Bill says a trial lawyer has to learn to accept rejection and be competitive.
On a complicated tax case, experienced attorneys told him they were too busy to help. So he called the special agent, Ben, who taught him the theory and evidence for two weeks.
Preparation starts with humility, which means you ask someone with deeper knowledge to teach you.
On Thursday, October 15, Episode 30 of The Straight Line to Success with David Sanford Wyatt brings part two with mentor and attorney Bill Bannister.
