New home of @David_Charts. Armchair economist, sci-fi fan, impressed by good data viz. Node in the vast left wing conspiracy. Facts have a liberal bias.

Deservedly scathing op-ed by the NYT: “If Democrats retake both houses of Congress, and more state governments than they now control, it will tell the world that Mr. Trump does not represent most Americans. It will demonstrate that a country that starts to slide toward autocracy can move back to normalcy, as happened in Hungary this spring. Most important, it will create a desperately needed check on Mr. Trump during his final two years in office. … In a 21-month span, he has done more harm to democracy and the rule of law than any other president in the modern era and perhaps longer than that. He has broken his oath to defend the Constitution by trying to rewrite it on his own. He has refused to honor Congress’s power of the purse and misused national security laws for political ends. He has defied federal court orders on Medicaid funding, deportation orders and more. He has dismantled the Justice Department’s legacy as an impartial enforcer of federal law, turning it into an instrument of retribution against his adversaries while canceling investigations into his allies. He has appointed inept sycophants to oversee crucial government functions, including law enforcement, national defense and public health. He has sought to disenfranchise large numbers of voters, claiming fraud that cannot be found, and championed an extreme new approach to partisan gerrymandering. He has physically besmirched the White House by demolishing the East Wing and financing a garish renovation with donations from wealthy allies.” nytimes.com/2026/10/27/opini…

Another example of why health coverage shouldn't be tied to employment, and be gated by cost. Medicare for All will protect Americans physically and financially.
Microsoft is offering buyouts to 60,000(!) employees. Headcount and revenue growth is really starting to diverge at tech companies.

Closing the tax gap is impossible, and reducing it is not a free lunch, but tax code and tax administration improvements could reduce the need for other, economy-harming tax hikes on the path to reducing debt and deficits. Link here: taxfoundation.org/blog/how-m…

Job creation weak under Trump, slowing income growth. Income (GDI) = # jobs x income/job. # jobs is growing very slowly. Only capital income is growing (going to rich). Labor income is flat (little going to workers). xitter.cf/David_Charts2/status/2…

Trump's 2nd term job creation has averaged 39,000 per month, below Biden's any way you slice it and Obama's 2nd term. 3/

It's about time Democrats talk about what we will do to improve affordability: 1. End the tariffs. 2. End the Iran war. 3. Remove the cap to fund Soc Scty for 30 years. 4. Expand the ACA subsidies. 5. Expand child tax credit. 6. Reverse Trump tax cuts for incomes over $400k.

NYT reports that among House Majority Dems' Day One priorities next year would be to pass legislation "to end Mr. Trump’s tariffs and restore congressional power over trade policy." nytimes.com/2026/10/23/us/po…

New from @EconoWill and I @TaxFoundation: the government loses hundreds of billions of $ to tax fraud each year. That's a lot! The low estimate is > SNAP funding and the high is > veterans' funding. What would it take to fix it? (1/3)
