1/2 After 10 years in journalism, I have decided to take on @TeamYouTube Legally, A platform cannot simply terminate years of hard work, jeopardise a creator’s livelihood and refuse to provide meaningful answers. This is about accountability.

Today I call upon the blockchain industry to calmly begin planning for "bunker mode". My personal recommendation is to set in motion a controlled mass migration of assets to fresh addresses, i.e. addresses whose pubkeys remain hidden behind a hash. Holders, starting with large and sophisticated ones, should consider moving the bulk of their funds to addresses that have never signed a transaction. And when they do sign one, they should also move remaining funds to a new address (possibly generated from the same seed phrase). Don't rush. While I believe there is cause for action a rushed migration would do more harm than good. Don't panic either. Moving assets to protected addresses is a simple, preventative step which does not require new cryptography or new wallets. IMO it is now reasonable to brace for the possibility that ECDSA breaks before qday, in the worst case in months not years. By "break" I mean fast private key recovery (e.g. in one week) on available hardware (e.g. a large GPU cluster). Recent days have been humbling for human mathematical intuition. Long-held, unquestioned hypotheses have fallen. This includes the n log(n) bound for integer multiplication and the 3SUM conjecture. In hindsight, May's unexpected disproof of the Erdős unit distance conjecture was our warning shot. Yesterday's OpenAI drop made it clear that mathematical superintelligence is upon us. They say there are weeks where decades happen. We are about to live through weeks where centuries of mathematical progress happen. Could our magic 64-byte ECDSA signatures be too good to be true? Was it just security through obscurity all this time? Elliptic curves feel especially vulnerable to superintelligence. Curves carry rich structure, with room for fancy tricks like Schoof, Frobenius, pairings. (By contrast, hashes are designed to minimise algebraic structure.) Separately, as Ewin Tang can attest, an efficient quantum algorithm sometimes foreshadows an efficient classical one. We should be open to the possibility of a classical counterpart to Shor that breaks elliptic curves and RSA at once. Also noteworthy is the striking under-representation of cryptographic breakthroughs among the 722 mathematical results OpenAI published. I've witnessed first-hand the US government censoring academic quantum cryptanalysis results. Backroom interventionism is my base case. I urge large, sophisticated actors to lead by example. Project11's "risq list" (bitcoin-risq-list.projecteleven[.]com) is a great tracker of exposed BTC pubkeys. Binance, Bitbank, Robinhood, Bitfinex, and Tether have an opportunity to harden their cold storage. Next month I'll address institutions in London in a live Q&A (forum.ethereuminstitutional[.]org/london-2026). Again, please do not rush. Wallets holding under 50 BTC enjoy partial cover from "Satoshi's shield", i.e. his 20K exposed addresses that hold 50 BTC each. Load-bearing signers like oracles and L2 security councils should consider rotating ECDSA pubkeys with every signed message and/or multi-signing with a hash-based schemes like SPHINCS. Exiting bunker mode safely will require post-AI cryptography. My inclination is to go all-in on hash-based cryptography and avoid structured mathematical assumptions entirely, whether from curves, lattices, or isogenies. A single battle-tested hash (e.g. from the SHA or BLAKE families) yields plausible post-AI security. The Ethereum roadmap on strawmap[.]org fully embraces hash-based cryptography with end-to-end formal verification as a response to the quantum threat. Those timelines must now be revisited and accelerated in light of mathematical superintelligence. I'll be pushing for maximum defensive acceleration.

Europe wants the wealth while treating the people who create it like fucking criminals. Belgium takes 52.5% of what it costs to employ an average single worker. The Netherlands wants to tax investment gains before you’ve even sold. Norway can hit you with an exit tax on share gains when you move abroad, even if you haven’t sold a single share. Work, invest, build, leave. There’s a bill for everything. And the appetite for control goes beyond taxes. Chat Control proposals that threaten private communications. Expanding crypto reporting. Restrictions on cash payments. Apparently, handing over your money isn’t enough. Your financial life needs to become increasingly transparent to the state too. Then comes the predictable political sales pitch: “The wealthy aren’t paying their fair share” Conveniently ignoring that entrepreneurs build businesses that pay corporate taxes, employ people who pay income taxes and create products people actually want. And if governments want to scrutinize every euro I earn, I expect the same seriousness about screening arrivals, keeping rapists and violent criminals out, and stopping welfare fraud.

YouTube can decide your channel is worth $0 after you already did the work. That’s not partnership. That’s permission-based revenue. You filmed it. Edited it. Published it. Built the audience. And the payout still depends on whether the platform keeps saying yes. Creators get told to chase views like views are the asset. They’re not. If the money can be switched off after the audience shows up, the audience is not the business. The platform is. Reach is useful. Revenue you can’t control is not.

A creator can win the view, lose the money, and spend the next 30 days proving it. That should be more offensive than it sounds. False copyright claims get framed like paperwork. They’re not paperwork. They’re a reminder that platform income is conditional even after the work is done. Make the video. Publish it. Pull the audience. Then wait while someone else’s claim puts your payout behind a dispute queue. If your revenue can be interrupted that easily, you’re not running on creator-friendly economics. You’re renting a business that can freeze before it pays. Creators don’t just need better appeal tactics. They need income streams where getting paid doesn’t start with asking permission.

High retention but low impressions? That's not a content problem — it's a click-signal problem. YouTube shows your video, nobody clicks, so it stops showing it. Fix the packaging and you unlock reach that was already yours. Free tool → base.tube

The first creators on any new platform aren't users. They're founders of a new economy. If you've ever wanted to own your audience instead of renting it, this is your early.

YouTube is already placing ads on your video. Just not paying you yet. That is the part creators should be angry about. The platform can see the inventory. It can find the breaks. It can sell the attention. What it hasn’t given you is the terms. So the value is real. The access is not. That’s the whole creator economy in one sentence: you make the asset, they control the checkout. If a video can be monetized for advertisers, the creator shouldn’t have to wait for permission to be treated like the owner.

Movie clips make a channel look smarter. They also turn growth into permission roulette. You can get a video to travel on borrowed footage. Then a claim lands, the revenue disappears, and the whole upload becomes a liability instead of an asset. That’s the part people miss: views are easy to borrow. rights are not. The channels that survive aren’t just good at editing around risk. They build a format that still works when nobody has to ask for permission.

Introducing the open source version of evm now: evmnow.eth.limo/ We believe EVM contracts deserve a simple, open source UI that enables users to use contracts permissionlessly. That's why we're working on a standard and sdk and the above example dApp UI to power better UX for interacting with smart contracts.

Ouch. Google really needs to do a better job of promoting small publishers Chartbeat data shows the smallest publishers (1,000–10,000 daily page views) saw the biggest declines over the past 2 years Small publishers are the backbone of the web. We don't need a McGoogle

Daily shorts feel productive because they rent attention fast. But two 5–7 minute videos a week can build something that keeps paying: search traffic, trust, and a library you own. If one video can earn for months, why chase volume over compounding?

We are sending our kids to school to memorize facts that AI can retrieve in 0.3 seconds. We're grading them on essays that AI writes better than their teachers. We're preparing them for jobs that won't exist by the time they graduate. The entire education system is training humans to compete with machines at what machines do best. That's not education. That's sabotage. The schools that survive will teach thinking, not memorizing. Creating, not repeating. Discerning, not obeying. Every other school is a museum that doesn't know it yet.

Agencies skim 20–30% and still triage mid‑tier creators. Ownership flips it: sell a pass fans own; you keep 90% and earn on resales. What would you stop outsourcing if you kept 90%?
