From delay to delivery. 🏗️🔥
A year ago, I vowed that a new contractor would be appointed for the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance in Hankey, Eastern Cape, and that the project would be put back on the path to completion after more than 10 years of delays.
🤝 This morning, I made good on that promise by handing over the site to the newly appointed contractor.
Once completed, the Sarah Baartman Centre of Remembrance will honor her memory with the dignity and respect she deserves, while creating jobs and opportunities for the local community.

Tomorrow, I will provide an update on our efforts to hold non-performing contractors accountable and remove those who fail to meet the required standards from doing business with the state. I will be joined by CIDB Board Chairperson Khulile Nzo and CEO Bongani Dladla.
Since 2024, we have intensified efforts to ensure that contractors entrusted with public infrastructure projects meet the required standards and deliver on their commitments. Those who do business with the state must be held to account and we will continue working to restore integrity, protect public funds and ensure that our infrastructure projects deliver for South Africans.

MINISTER @DeanMacpherson TO PROVIDE AN UPDATE ON CONTRACTOR BLACKLISTING
On Tuesday, 27 October, the Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Dean Macpherson, will provide an update on the Construction Development Industry Board’s (cidb) efforts to blacklist non-performing contractors from doing business with the state.
The Minister will be joined by cidb Board Chairperson Khulile Nzo and Chief Executive Officer
Bongani Dladla.
Since 2024, the cidb has intensified its efforts to review its register of contractors and strengthen accountability across the construction industry.
These efforts aim to ensure that contractors entrusted with public infrastructure projects meet the required standards, deliver on their contractual obligations and are held accountable when they fail to do so.
