A 2002 study from @DecideOrSlide and colleagues still feels strikingly relevant: How couples argue is more related to divorce risk than what they argue about. As @harrybenson6 notes, "while women are more sensitive to the way they are treated, men are more sensitive to the level of argument reached." More from @FamStudies: ifstudies.org/blog/rule-numb…

Regret having children? Or not having any? It's mostly one directional. Among 45+ year old Americans: 7% of those with children would have 0 if they could go back. 56% of those without children would have some if they could go back. news.gallup.com/poll/164618/…

Of note, #IBM would have known about this problem long before their memo came out on 9-28 (because of problems during Sonoma's beta). Most large software companies would have figured out what to do by now. Most opinion is IBM will just wait until version 30 of SPSS comes out.

Warning to anyone using SPSS (#ibmstatistics) on a Mac. Do NOT upgrade to Sonoma. It will not work on Sonoma. Spent a day downgrading too Macs to Ventura and something sticks--IBM installer won't run on the reverted computers. Just a warning to any Mac users of #IBM software.

It's difficult to sum up in a single tweet how ruinous fertility this low is. It'll produce economic decline & sociological chaos, all under a pall of pessimism.
China's fertility rate is now among the very lowest in the world.

Young men are spending more time on video games & tv and less time working, exercising & sleeping. (Chart @bloomberg with edits for clarity, red=decreases.) We need more categories — assuming much of the “socializing & communicating” here is on phones and not in person.

Of course I do not think women should be made to stay in violent marriages. My book certainly does not argue that women should marry men who treat them badly. This is exactly the type of rhetorical attack that has made it so difficult for us to have this necessary conversation.
We should acknowledge that the freedom women gained to have, keep and raise children without being married is a tremendous advance. And we should never lose sight of the despicable state and family violence done to women and children before that advance. theguardian.com/world/2017/m…
