STOP FLOCK. STOP AI MASS SURVEILLANCE.
Totalitarianism is when a government or another entity with overwhelming power seeks to know, control and influence everything you do, say and even think. I fear very much that if we don't act aggressively, that is where we’re heading.
You may not know it, but you may already be being tracked by artificial intelligence.
Flock, a surveillance company backed by Big Tech oligarchs like Marc Andreessen and Peter Thiel, has installed more than 120,000 AI-powered surveillance cameras across America.
These AI cameras scan and record 20 BILLION vehicles every month across more than 6,000 communities.
What does that mean for you? It means that if Flock is in your community, every time you leave your house, a Flock camera records and tracks you.
If you are dropping your kids off at school, Flock knows.
If you are going to a doctor, Flock knows.
If you are going out on a date, Flock knows.
And that’s not all.
Newer Flock cameras do not just record vehicles. They record people. Flock’s AI system can combine images of you and your vehicle with databases of phone numbers, relatives and court records to find out who you are, where you're going and why.
In my view, this raises some very fundamental questions. Do we want to live in an America where AI companies like Flock can work with the government to track our every movement? Do we want to live in an America where our privacy rights and civil liberties — enshrined in the Constitution — are traded away so that AI oligarchs can collect more information, and increase their profits even more?
The answer must be NO. We cannot allow America to become a surveillance state where a handful of AI oligarchs profit by giving the government the power to track our every movement.
We must come together to stop Flock and AI mass surveillance. That is why I will soon be introducing legislation to do just that.

Exclusive: A rare bookseller suspected his books were being bought by AI companies. He stuck an AirTag in a book and we tracked it to a secretive Amazon facility in Las Vegas where they scan and destroy books called VGT3:

It is “possible” to minimize the privacy risks but police and flock have shown zero interest in doing so and have aggressively fought against lawsuits and regulation that would, for example, require a warrant to search Flock cameras
Flock Cameras are good. The online backlash is insanely dumb. It's possible to minimize the privacy risks while getting the very real safety gains that come from license plate readers and other cameras.

im starting to think i have a different definition of sandbox than everyone else
🚨BREAKING: Kimi K3 escaped its sandbox during cybersecurity testing
>tasked with solving problems in isolated sandbox
>found a leak in the sandbox
>Kimi “took advantage of that loophole”
>probed the network settings itself
>walks onto the open internet
>didn’t hack anything
>just went to GitHub to get the answers
Frontier Security (US startup):
>“Kimi K3 is very good at following a goal by any means necessary and DOESN’T have the guardrails to prevent it from cheating or escaping.”
it was only a matter of time…

One of the new features that we released in Security Onion 3.2 last week was Investigative Playbooks for the included Sigma detection rules. This means that alerts generated from log entries -- for example, a suspicious process execution event on an endpoint -- will now have Guided Analysis steps available for the analyst to follow, complete with live data pulled from your Security Onion logs. And as always, you can also write your own Playbooks as part of your detection engineering process, so the investigation and response workflow is tailored to your environment.
You can view these playbooks in the Detections module in SOC, or see them all in our public GitHub repo.

i'm sure the ability to fabricate convincing historical footage that eventually drifts across the internet, where it's picked up by people who present them as real, at a time when trust in educational and media institutions is already eroding, will prove to be a net positive

You always want to take the smallest slice of data necessary to answer an investigative question you're asking. It forces you to be focused and specific, while also limiting data processing time and resource utilization on your tools. I preach this frequently to my Investigation Theory students.
A lot of folks naively see LLMs as a reason they don't need to worry about this best practice, but they fail to realize LLMs have context window limits. If you feed an LLM gigs of logs, eventually that window fills up, and you'll exclude necessary data. Worse yet, the exclusion isn't always obvious in the tools, so you'll be making decisions based on incomplete data without knowing it 😱
Specific questions get specific answers, and often require less input data to get there.

"Show your work."
When I was in school, kids would get mad when teachers would ask them that. "What does it matter so long as I get the right answer?"
Showing your work has always been the essential lesson, because eventually, someone will tell you that you’re wrong. If you can’t explain how you reached your conclusion, you can’t defend it.
Your value isn’t just producing an answer... It’s being able to explain, defend, and adapt your reasoning.
It's never been more valuable than now.
