Starknet launched STRK20, a new privacy token standard providing default anonymity for ERC-20 tokens. Powered by Starknet Privacy Pool and ZK-proofs, the standard obscures sender/receiver addresses and transaction amounts on-chain while maintaining compatibility with DeFi operations like DEX trading and staking. It also features encrypted viewing keys to satisfy compliance and auditing requirements. xitter.cf/Starknet/status/203133…

Now that ZKEVMs are at alpha stage (production-quality performance, remaining work is safety) and PeerDAS is live on mainnet, it's time to talk more about what this combination means for Ethereum.
These are not minor improvements; they are shifting Ethereum into being a fundamentally new and more powerful kind of decentralized network.
To see why, let's look at the two major types of p2p network so far:
BitTorrent (2000): huge total bandwidth, highly decentralized, no consensus
Bitcoin (2009): highly decentralized, consensus, but low bandwidth - because it’s not “distributed” in the sense of work being split up, it’s *replicated*
Now, Ethereum with PeerDAS (2025) and ZK-EVMs (expect small portions of the network using it in 2026), we get: decentralized, consensus and high bandwidth
The trilemma has been solved - not on paper, but with live running code, of which one half (data availability sampling) is *on mainnet today*, and the other half (ZK-EVMs) is *production-quality on performance today* - safety is what remains.
This was a 10-year journey (see the first commit of my original post on DAS here: github.com/ethereum/research… , and ZK-EVM attempts started in ~2020), but it's finally here.
Over the next ~4 years, expect to see the full extent of this vision roll out:
* In 2026, large non-ZKEVM-dependent gas limit increases due to BALs and ePBS, and we'll see the first opportunities to run a ZKEVM node
* In 2026-28, gas repricings, changes to state structure, exec payload going into blobs, and other adjustments to make higher gas limits safe
* In 2027-30, large further gas limit increases, as ZKEVM becomes the primary way to validate blocks on the network
A third piece of this is distributed block building.
A long-term ideal holy grail is to get to a future where the full block is *never* constituted in one single place. This will not be necessary for a long time, but IMO it is worth striving for us at least have the capability to do that.
Even before that point, we want the meaningful authority in block building to be as distributed as possible. This can be done either in-protocol (eg. maybe we figure out how to expand FOCIL to make it a primary channel for txs), or out-of-protocol with distributed builder marketplaces. This reduces risk of centralized interference with real-time transaction inclusion, AND it creates a better environment for geographical fairness.
Onward.

⚠️ ALERT: Wrench attacks on crypto holders are rising and growing more violent, especially in Europe and Asia.
A wrench attack is when criminals use physical threats or force to steal crypto.
Reduce risk by staying private, avoiding wallet bragging, and using multisig or custody solutions.

fundamentals, institutional demand, and scaling are all coming together.

Ethereum mainnet gas fee is now on par with L2s after the Fusaka upgrade
0.022 gwei 😁
A single USDT transfer on Ethereum now costs just $0.01
By the way, layer 2 gas fees costs are projected to go down by almost 50% in the coming months

Encrypted messaging, like @signalapp, is critical for preserving our digital privacy. Two important next steps for the space are (i) permissionless account creation and (ii) metadata privacy.
@session_app and @SimpleXChat are two messaging apps pushing these directions forward.
For this reason I've donated 128 ETH to each. Addresses available on their websites if you wish to follow on:
getsession.org/
simplex.chat/
But also, actually download and use them!
Neither of the two are perfect pieces of software, they have a way to go to get to truly optimal user experience and security. Strong metadata privacy requires decentralization, decentralization is hard, users expecting multi-device support makes everything harder. Sybil / DoS resistance, both in the message routing network and on the user side (without forcing phone number dependence) adds further difficulty.
These problems need more eyes on them. I wish all teams working on these important problems best of luck.

Props to @robik, Michael Carrili, @MarcinM02, @Shamatar.
The L1 gas limit is going higher. So much higher.

that's cool, you guys could start by not reselling our free data for 4.5k/yr against our ToS, even after telling us you had removed all our data when we asked

Update on our next phase of growth (long post)
TL/DR: Blockworks is becoming a software/data first org
When Mike and I started Blockworks in 2017, we wanted to solve "the information problem." Crypto was growing up fast and the new entrants deserved better information.
We've built everything from events to podcasts, research, data, and news.
As we’ve scaled, we’ve experienced massive growth across all business units: we've had record revenues in 2025 and we'll have another record year in 2026.
Over the past two years, we have seen particularly rapid growth in our data business. The market is telling us that our combo of data + distribution is extremely valuable. Every day, we hear from both investors and protocols that Blockworks data is critical to their daily workflow.
And so, we're going all in on what Mike and I believe is the greatest opportunity we’ve seen since launching Blockworks in 2017. More on this soon :)
Now, to talk about news...
Mike and I launched news in 2021 as an extension of our events, podcasts, and newsletter businesses.
At the time, crypto media couldn't speak fluently to tradfi, and trad media couldn't understand crypto.
Since then, Blockworks has broken big stories, published thousands of stories, been cited by nearly every major publication, and helped shape the industry conversation every day. I am very proud of the work that the team has done.
But the landscape is changing and the same problems don’t exist today.
There are many strong crypto media publications. Great journalists combined with new tools have raised the bar in reporting, and traditional outlets have also improved. Meanwhile, users are increasingly looking toward data as a primary information source.
So we’ve decided to sharpen our focus on software and data and exit our news business.
To our incredible news team: a huge, heartfelt thank you. You built something that helped shape the industry and fueled the growth of Blockworks. I have a deep amount of respect for all that you do. To anyone hiring crypto journalists, please reach out – everyone is incredible.
To the broader Blockworks community: over the coming months, you’ll see Blockworks evolve into a data-first intelligence platform. Our website will become a true data destination. Our main newsletters and podcasts will continue to set the pace for conversations that drive the industry. Our events will continue to grow (DAS is coming to Abu Dhabi next year).
And we’re rolling out more category-defining software and data products soon.
Love you all, onwards.

every transaction leaks data: sender, time, content, counterparty.
enough leaks and your entire identity is reconstructed.
Privacy Pools stops the flow. we patch the holes in Ethereum’s privacy layer.

$1.35M was stolen from a Thorchain cofounder. Yet another reminder: if your keys are stored in a software wallet, you’re only one malicious code execution away from losing everything.
In this case, the victim didn’t even sign a malicious transaction, the malware simply stole the keys.
Honestly, it’s insane to keep that much money in a software wallet. If you leave significant funds there, it’s not a question of if you’ll be drained, but when.
