Satellites see roofs. Mapping fleets see roads.
Neither sees a stairwell, a loading bay or the inside of a warehouse, and that's the gap physical AI has to close before robots can work in the real world.
@vangrid_io is building the spatial data layer for that gap, using phones instead of sensor rigs.
Here's how it works. Someone posts a capture bounty in USDC on Base or Arc. A contributor nearby films a short orbit of the place. The video is reconstructed into a 3D model, with dense point clouds and Gaussian splats rather than raw footage. The requester reviews a preview and accepts it.
What's underneath matters more than the bounty. Every capture gets a fingerprint: a content hash, a coarse geohash and a timestamp. These are batched into a Merkle tree, and roughly every 15 minutes the root is anchored on Base through EAS. A buyer can check an inclusion proof against the public ledger without having to trust Vangrid.
AI agents can now post bounties too, with one HTTP call paid through x402. No account and no API key. An agent pays a human to go and look at the world for it.
Their October grid update reported 1.25M+ captures, 450K+ users and 4,700+ attestations. The bounty board now shows about $710K in USDC settlements.
My take: the real product isn't the 3D model, it's the provenance record.
Crowd captured data is worthless to a buyer who can't trust it.
Vangrid's docs are also open that device attestation and verification under collateral aren't live yet. That roadmap is the thing to watch.
Which comes first: robotics labs buying this ground truth, or agents ordering it themselves?
