And it works too! Just look at what they’ve done in Delaware. This sends an undeniable message to move left and focus on working families. A Republican winning sends the opposite message. That’s the calculus 3/ whyy.org/articles/delaware-e…

If you want to break a duopoly, getting on ballots isn’t enough. You need to recruit a base that exists outside of election cycles. This is why I love @WorkingFamilies model. They have strategically targeted key states and races with a long term goal of national viability. 2/

What a night! Here are our primary victories and what they mean for Delaware’s future.
Up first, Kamela Smith defeated Speaker Val Longhurst, who was in office since 2004 and part of leadership for over a decade. This victory will represent a huge change in how Dover works.

In ways that even I don't fully know, and may come out more now that people don't have to be afraid, Val Longhurst was a massive bully. She threatened people, fired people, withheld support and funding to get her way. And yesterday showed that this style of politics doesn't win.

RESULT, and a big one, in Delaware during the debate:
Delaware's state Speaker has lost her reelection bid in the Democratic primary tonight, to a progressive challenger endorsed by the Working Families Party.
Kamela Smith beats Speaker Valerie Longhurst by roughly 6%.

Ever wonder why nearly half the House Democratic caucus endorsed Bethany Hall-Long? It's because Longhurst was twisting arms behind closed doors. Now, it looks like Hall-Long was breaking the law and covering it up.
What did Val Longhurst know and when did she know it?

I am incredibly perturbed by the fact that we were promised adequate time to deliberate on substantive bills coming from the CLC earlier in session & yet here we are again.
SB313 will likely be fast tracked through the Senate when we get back on June 12.

How are news outlets dedicating wall-to-wall coverage to campus protests, but not the discovery of mass graves in Gaza of people with their hands tied & clothing stripped?
Why do we not know more?
Where are the journalists and resources being dedicated to that story?

Senator Sanders had introduced resolutions to remove the “offensive military funding” for Israel from the bill as well as restore U.S. funding for UNRWA. The amendments are unlikely to make it into the final version of the bill. We cannot let this bill pass. Call your Senator at (202) 224-3121 or email them at buff.ly/3Uf0B1S

STOP THE SUPPLEMENTAL!
This week, the Senate is considering the package the House of Representatives passed over the weekend which includes BILLIONS for Israel and for war around the world. Senator Coons insisted he had to vote yes on the bill to ensure the humanitarian aid went through, even though the bill would cut funding to UNRWA and sends more weapons to Israel which are causing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza in the first place. He’s received $258k from the pro-Israel lobby over the course of his career.

New in @DelawareCall — The powerful group of lawyers that writes Delaware’s corporate code wants to change the rules after a disappointing legal defeat in Chancery Court, and the changes they want spell bad news for corporate accountability.

Earlier this year, it appeared there would be few significant changes to the corporate code, and the proposed amendments were modest. But then Chancery Court issued a ruling that special interest didn’t like, and now they want to change the rules.
