Happy Birthday Andy Lloyd Andy Lloyd is the only Test player who has opened an innings never to have been dismissed. Lloyd made only 10 when he got hit by Malcolm Marshall and he never played test cricket again. His test career lasted for just 33 mins.

Bill Rodgers is the last living person to have voted in the 1963 Labour leadership election, in which Wilson was victorious and would lead the party for the next 13 years. Rodgers voted for George Brown. He is alleged to have said, 'Better George Brown drunk than Harold Wilson sober'. [photo from the night he was elected MP for Stockton in 1962]
Former Labour and SDP MP Bill Rodgers, the oldest living male former MP, is 98 today; he is also the current earliest-serving surviving: - Former Labour MP (first elected 1962) - Minister (appointed 1964) - Privy Counsellor (appointed 1975) - Cabinet Minister (appointed 1976)

India's captain Ajit Wadekar on his way to 45, England v India, 3rd Test, The Oval, August 23rd 1971. His batting was key in India winning this match which was their first in England and gave them their first series win over England. He returned home a hero. Three years later after India had been thrashed 3-0 he had to delay his return such was the level of hostility aimed towards him

Growing up, Bill Alley to me was an umpire. Only later did I learn he was an excellent allrounder in the northern leagues and then for Somerset, playing 350 times for them even though he did not make his debut until he was 38. A former boxer, he moved from Australia to England when he missed out on Test selection. He finished with 19612 first-class runs at 31.88 and 768 wickets at 22.68. He was the last batsman to score 3000 runs in a first-class season - 3019 runs at 56.96 in 1961. He later stood in 10 Tests (C)

Another of my favourite photos, Ken Kelly's autumnal shot of Mike Brearley in his last match before retiring walking off after leading Middlesex to a ten-wicket win and with it the County Championship at Worcester, September 11th 1982. This seems to sum up the end of season (and summer) as I recall it. That was not quite that for Brearley. He made one final appearance the following year when the county was struggling with availability

Chnadrasekhar's exceptional leg-spin was a major weapon against Australia 1977. His unusual bowling action, pace variation, and sharp turn made difficult for Australian batsmen to read However, saying his deadly spin magic destroyed Australia is dramatic language- He was an important part of india's bowling attack, but the series was not simply a one-man destruction of Australia.
