It's November 2026, and Doug Ford still isn't taking accountability for his 8 years in power
Premier Doug Ford says Ontario needs private career colleges because the former Liberal government (which was in power eight years ago) "destroyed the health care system" and that -- the premier suggests is the "root cause" for why the PCs are reliant on the colleges. #onpoli

Always incredible to me how many people believe socialism is when the government doesn’t micromanage what homes you can build

The only time I see anything about this company it’s the government handing them money. Does it do anything useful yet?

Again I wince as the answer to what would Build Canada like done tends towards lowering capital gains taxes. Ok πŸ™‚
Our CEO, @lucyhargreaves4, joined Paul Wells on his newest podcast episode to answer a pretty important question: Who is Build Canada and what do we do? πŸŽ™οΈ youtube.com/watch?v=_Ps2_HWG…

Even in Atlantic Canada, where supply reforms came more easily, big picture economic discussions put no effort into the actual nuts and bolts of how to get more housing
I keep seeing Canadian business groups, think-tanks advocate for higher immigration, noting "of course" we also need to scale infrastructure and housing. But they don't seem to be doing any work to advance policy to actually get more stuff built. It's maddening.

Feels like the BoC is doing mental gymnastics (β€œto anchor expectations”) instead of taking the simplest reading of the economy
BoC looked at the slack in the labour market and opted to "reduce the risk of high energy prices spreading more broadly" via some hypothetical expectations channel rather than pursue its objective "to actively seek maximum sustainable employment." bankofcanada.ca/wp-content/u…

This is based on a misunderstanding of what makes toll roads expensive or not. Better to measure it per mile. Far better to measure it per minute saved!
The most expensive toll roads to drive end-to-end in the US.

Dr Church’s class on industrial organization was one my favourites, and the most useful after graduation as well

There's a narrative out there that Mr. Anglin doesn't understand immigration-population growth dynamics
There is a narrative out there that the current federal government has dramatically cut immigration. It’s false. The average annual permanent immigration level under Trudeau (2016-2025, excluding the anomalous COVID year of 2020) was 381,000. The new government has frozen annual levels at … 380,000. Yes, it’s about 100,000 less than the highest Trudeau year (2024), BUT it’s still about 100,000 higher than the highest Harper year. β€œLast year, the government said it would freeze the number of new permanent residents at 380,000 a year until 2028. It also cut the number of international students it planned to admit over the next three years in half.”

A sweeping progressive moment. -> property taxes to rise by just 2.2%, preventing any real action
Tonight, the people of Toronto have spoken. And you have given me the extraordinary honour of continuing to serve as your mayor. I am grateful. I am humbled. And I am so proud of our city.

Are not municipalities specifically responsible for regulating land uses?
β€œYou can’t build a provincial economy on whale watching and coffee shops.” We need to be a province that builds, makes and creates. We need a provincial industrial strategy and we need to get serious about the loss of industrial land to real estate speculation. Once industrial land is converted to other uses, it is extraordinarily difficult, if not impossible, to get it back. And without that land, where exactly do we expect the next generation of manufacturers, skilled tradespeople and industrial employers to go? This is one of the most consequential challenges we face in British Columbia, with a lot of damage already done. I hope the new government makes it an urgent priority.

NEW β€” Gabriel Zucman, one of the world’s foremost experts on wealth taxes, has endorsed the BC Greens’ Fair Share Act: β€œThis excellent proposal for BC is not radical. What’s radical is to accept the status quo where the super rich live tax free in their own parallel society.”

This map is great because it would obviously flip Montana, North Dakota, Maine (senate), and Alaska. It’s even more impactful than just adding a state
