The ministry of agriculture has activated the national FMD contingency plan under the Animal Health Act of 2011 to contain and control an outbreak of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) confirmed at Kalala Island in the Kabe constituency of the Zambezi Region.
With immediate effect, the movement of all cloven-hoofed animals and their raw products within the Zambezi Region has been suspended until further notice. All previously issued movement permits have been cancelled.
The ministry says the suspension also covers livestock marketing and trade, including auctions, informal markets, local abattoirs and other animal-gathering events. Slaughter at local abattoirs, informal markets and during social events has been halted.

Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) has been confirmed at Kalala Island in the Kabe Constituency of the Zambezi Region, prompting an immediate suspension of livestock movement, trade and slaughter.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Land Reform said 12 samples collected from cattle showing symptoms tested positive on 7 October 2026. A total of 20 cattle displayed clinical signs during investigations on 5 October.
All movement permits for cloven-hoofed animals and their raw products in the region have been cancelled, while auctions, informal markets and other livestock-gathering events have been suspended.
Roadblocks have been established to enforce restrictions, and emergency vaccination has begun in the affected area. Slaughter at export abattoirs may continue under Commodity-Based Trade, subject to satisfactory traceability of cattle in quarantine.
Farmers are urged to report suspected cases to their nearest State Veterinary Office and comply with control measures as authorities intensify surveillance to contain the outbreak.

Namport announces N$90 million injection into Namibian football for the next three years - averaging N$30 million per season. The football fraternity employs about 21 000 Namibians in different capacities. Add to this the vendors of different merchandises on matchdays and you're talking about real economic spin-offs. May the bug that bit Namport also crawl into the blankets of other corporate entities, public and private, and spread the same poison of generosity!
