The popularity of a character such as Adam Jensen still proves he is still the defacto face of Deus Ex. Seeing all the news surrounding #DeusEx this week, I noticed that most (if not all) websites reporting the fact Embracer wants to bring back Deus Ex were using Adam Jensen as their cover image. Finishing Adam's story and bridging the gap between DXMD and DX1 has been the most requested dream of the DX community over the past decade. Many of the developers who crafted the aura of Adam's character have scattered around different studios. If there is a name that comes to mind though, I would love to see @theroguefactor take a crack at this as many former Eidos devs have moved there.

2011: The year is 2027, it's a time of great innovation. And technological advancement, it's also a time of chaos... and conspiracy. Me realizing 2027 is just less than 4 months away.

Deus Ex Remastered is still alive and wasn't quietly cancelled, as some fans presumed/speculated. Last week, when I reported on the removal of the DRM protection of DXMD. I made sure to ask Eidos while I was in contact with them about the status of the project. "The team at Aspyr has been working diligently on the project and is looking forward to share substantial updates when they're ready to do so. Stay tuned" confirmed Sacha Ramtohul, Senior Marketing and Licensing Manager at Eidos-Montréal.

A 'Non-Denuvo' version of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided will be coming towards the end of 2026. Senior Marketing and Licensing Manager at Eidos Montreal, Sacha Ramtohul, has confirmed. On August 11th 2026, v1.19_build810.0_no_denuvo of the game was added, however, it was removed a couple of days ago after being discovered by the fans. There is no specific timeline at this stage for when this version will go live, but Eidos are confident it will be coming towards the end of the year. Before you get your hopes up, I have confirmed with Eidos that there are no other changes coming to DXMD; it is just about removing the Denuvo protection.

Embracer Group published its Q1 Interim Report today. There is still no mention or any updates on the Deus Ex remaster announced last year as fans speculate that the remaster may have been canceled quietly. This comes at a time where Embracer Group announced a few months back they are willing to explore partnerships to revive IPs like Deus Ex. Did Embracer back pedal? Eidos-Montréal founder Stéphane D’Astous is interested in making a new Deus Ex. In a conversation with Thunderpick, he expressed willingness to bring back old developers who worked during his time at the studio (2007-2013) to build a new game that respects the foundations of Deus Ex, keeping its core mechanics of choice and consequence while expanding on what modern technologies allow for today. “That would be a perfect circle back to my early career,” he said. “I would definitely be able to gather former employees who worked on it (Deus Ex: Human Revolution) and other people that would love to work on it.” Stéphane also described his vision for how the IP should be handled, with an emphasis on single player, story driven games, steering away from mobile platforms “We wanted maybe to add more different multiple endings that are well thought out. I would concentrate on a single-player game, not mobile, as I don’t believe it’s the proper platform for it.” Stéphane D’Astous also criticized Embracer's handling of the Deus Ex franchise, referring to the cancelation of the 2024 Deus Ex game: “I was very disappointed when Lars from Embracer said in 2024 they wouldn’t do any more Deus Ex,” he revealed. “I said, ‘What are they thinking? That was the bread and butter; that’s the DNA of the studio (Eidos-Montréal).’” Speaking on the future of Eidos-Montréal, Stéphane was not full of positivity here, but I personally believe Stéphane had some remakes on Phil Rogers, CEO of Embracer Group, although he did not mention him by name: “I founded Eidos Montreal. It was my baby. I left in 2013 and mentioned reasons of leadership, courage, and communication. Without giving the name of the person that I was relating to, that person is still at Eidos, and now Embracer. Was it Einstein who said, ‘Only stupid people hope to have a different outcome when they repeat something’? There you go, that’s a great example.” “Because of who is in the driver’s seat in London, and Embracer had the great idea to promote him if you look at his title. If they’re cursed? I’m afraid so.” Link to the entire conversation: thunderpick.io/blog/stephane… (very good read if you ask me)

The recent comments made by Phil Rogers had a very familiar echo that I remember very well. In 2017, Square Enix CEO (at the time) Yosuke Matsuda also talked about Deus Ex as rumors were circulating that the IP was abandoned in favor of Marvel games, stating "a lack of resources". We never got that Deus Ex game we deserve, I don't care if I get hate for saying this, I love Deus Ex so much but I am so fucking tired of hearing people in charge only talking about how much Deus Ex is important to them, fans are tired of talking, we want to see actions, save the pep talk for the behind the scenes stuff. Phil Rogers, CEO of Embracer Group, has elaborated more on his idea regarding the revival of dormant IPs like Deus Ex through external collaborations. “We can’t work on everything ourselves... We could find other teams who say, ‘I’ve got this idea’, ‘I’ve got a treatment.’ This happens in other entertainment forms, right? You get treatments, and you work on that basis. Whether it’s remakes, remasters, a new treatment or an adaptation in some way.” Link: thegamebusiness.com/p/embrac…
