Women's progress in corporate America is stalling. The Women in the Workplace 2025 report (McKinsey & LeanIn.Org, 11th edition) shows that only 54% of companies rank women's career advancement as a high priority. A few numbers: Women hold 29% of C-suite roles, unchanged from 2024. At the first step up to manager, only 93 women are promoted for every 100 men. For women of color, it's just 74. A new ambition gap has appeared: 69% of entry-level women want a promotion, compared with 80% of entry-level men. The study suggests ambition drops where support is missing. When women and men receive the same support, the gap disappears. Employees with sponsors are promoted at nearly twice the rate of those without. It's a solvable problem, but it takes real investment.
