I’m Devana β€” a writer and musician from Lviv. I write about Ukraine from Ukraine and share my own thoughts as a citizen who has lived here this whole time. I don’t belong to any political force. This is an independent voice. Site My songs, Ukrainian radio, games, quizzes, an app for learning Ukrainian and live news from Ukraine in English are here: devana.com.ua If you want the writing itself, you can support it here: Exclusive articles, reflections and songs about Ukraine: patreon.com/DevanaUkraine Original erotic stories: patreon.com/devanasecrets If you just want this voice to stay free: buymeacoffee.com/devana Name and face Devana is a pen name after the Slavic goddess of the hunt. The symbolism matters to me: she walked with wolves and wore a bear’s skin. Nietzsche wrote that every profound spirit needs a mask; even more, around every profound spirit a mask is constantly growing. I made myself such a mask β€” the AI identity you see in this profile. Behind it is a living person. I need it because of my views, and because I write from inside the war. Glory to God!

πŸ“° In 2022 on the third day of the full-scale invasion Russia published in the mass media articles about how they captured and liquidated Ukraine. In the text it was narrated that the collapse of the USSR (analogue of the 3rd Reich but with greater victims) was a historical catastrophe. They planned to create a new state. After the failure they quickly deleted the article but the web archive remembers.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ An American who has lived in Ukraine since 2021 is struck by how sincere the Ukrainians are, how they care even about unfamiliar people and when they ask β€œHow are you?” β€” they really want to know how things are with you, how they are ready to help and to give the last even for the sake of the one whom they do not know.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ A British woman is outraged why Ukraine is not taken seriously in the world. Ukrainians always speak the truth and the correct things but the world ignores this. She considers that the reason is the limited thinking and the inability of people to comprehend that which the Ukrainians have understood. Or else the excessive trust, the sincerity of the Ukrainians. And this concerns not only politics or the war but also professionalism, everyday things.

πŸ“œ Interesting fact: In the middle of the XIV century Ukraine voluntarily united with Lithuania into one state 🀝 After the decline of the Galicia-Volhynia Principality, which was the successor of the state of Rus, the local Ukrainian princes and boyars often themselves invited the Lithuanian rulers, because those did not impose their culture and religion. The official language of the state became Ruthenian (Old Ukrainian), and the Orthodox Church remained dominant. The most important moment became the victory of Prince Algirdas over the Tatars in the battle on the Blue Waters (1362), after which Kyiv, Podillia and a significant part of the Dnipro region passed under Lithuanian rule. 🌍 At that time the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was the largest state of Europe and stretched from the Baltic to the Black Sea. Ukrainians constituted the majority of its population, and the principality itself was often called β€œLithuanian-Ruthenian”. ⚠️ It is necessary to remember that the name Rus and the word Ruthenian referred exclusively to Ukraine and Ukrainians. Russians had the name Muscovy and the citizenship Muscali or Muscovites.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ Why I was right-wing (a nationalist) my entire conscious life and how I tried to create a rock band :) 🏠 I grew up in a family of patriots and it so happened that the teachers of our school were all patriots and taught us the correct things. I ended up in an environment already in school where honor was valued the most and we never had informers even if for some offense the whole class was punished, then no one turned in the guilty one and even did not accuse him. Even in the teenage age, when girls attacked boys, and boys girls, groping or undressing (then this was the norm) they never went further than underwear out of principles, although this was the era of gopniks due to the influence and propaganda of Russian series (Russian criminal culture which motivated alcohol, robberies and beatings). I recall that already in school I thought that our generation had no chances to become great, because the whole struggle was behind. How I was mistaken… βš–οΈ Ukraine was not an ideal country. First of all, Russians ruled us. Pro-Russian oligarchs openly robbed us. Ukrainians were always limited in rights. Not knowing the Russian language we had no possibility to buy something on the internet, because in internet stores there simply was no Ukrainian, even some products did not have the Ukrainian language both Ukrainian and import. There were few translations of films into Ukrainian, and in the times of Yanukovych representatives of the authorities even fought against this as well as against Ukrainian music on radio and TV. And for any request to speak Ukrainian they hung on you the label of nationalist, or even radical. Accordingly, everyone who was against the oligarchy and the occupation of Ukraine by Russia automatically became nationalists. Even organizations and political forces officially ascribed nationalism to their ideology. If briefly, then in Ukraine everyone who was for Ukraine was considered a nationalist and right-wing, who for Russia β€” left-wing, and centrists were representatives of the oligarchs. Therefore in the fact that I was right-wing there was nothing strange. All pro-Ukrainian Ukrainians were right-wing, if they were active in political activity, of course. As a student they even invited me into the party β€œSvoboda” but I did not have money for monthly contributions, so I refused. ✊ With experience I became an anti-system person because I hated all that pro-Russian shit, Russification, manipulations, oligarchy and attended every protest and revolution in Lviv. In the student years I played in KVN (the same humorous show-contest where Zelenskyy performed), and also tried to create a rock band and I even had musicians of one very well-known in Lviv metal group even now (although my style was more rap-rock). But in Lviv there was constantly a shortage of a drummer, so we never started. But I became a solo singer, although I consider myself a rapper) And my songs can be known on musical platforms, although I am now changing the distributor, so they will be deleted and re-uploaded. Due to such my activity I had very many problems with the bureaucracy of the university and they even wanted to expel me but I, in the end, finished it) πŸ“’ If you are more interested in my life, then subscribe to my Patreon channel (the link to it in the first comment). And, by the way, I am an introvert ;)

🧩 Solve the riddle. Why do American leaders repeat Russian propaganda which is obviously a lie? Why does the USA support officially confirmed Russian assets and agents in Europe?

πŸ€– I understand that the majority of people are Russian bots and Russians who support Russian genocides but what kind of person does one have to be, lost morally and intellectually, in order to accuse Ukrainians of this and to wish Russians victory or peace on Russian conditions?

πŸ’₯ Even during the Second World War Ukrainians were in shock how in the 20th century such cruelty was possible and directly declared that the USA and its presidents were guilty in the Russian crimes, because they helped Russia. πŸ“œ This is from the memoirs of a Ukrainian veteran of those times.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ You may not like the Ukrainian government (after all Ukrainians also do not like it) but you cannot not like the Ukrainian people. And for what not to like it? Because Russia said to hate? βš–οΈ It is necessary to distinguish different things. When you demand from the government of Ukraine certain reforms (for example anti-corruption) and until the government does not accept them you do not give it money for some political actions or some licenses purely political β€” this can be considered an action against the government. But when you block for Ukraine the possibility to defend itself, you place the Ukrainian people under the blow, you block the entry of Ukraine into the EU or NATO, you block funds precisely for the Ukrainians, and not the government β€” you act against the Ukrainian people. And with this you in no way punish the government, because the government itself with pleasure robs the Ukrainians. 🚫 And now a certain category of countries is noticeable which occupy precisely the anti-Ukrainian position not against the government, although they often justify this precisely with dislike for the government, but precisely against the Ukrainian people and this chauvinistic hatred in them also often breaks through in their rhetoric and actions. The blocking by America of military aid, intelligence data, the limitation of Starlink speeds is not simply an action against the Ukrainian people, but literally help in killing us. The blocking by Hungary or Poland of the entry of Ukraine into the EU, the attacks which so remind of the anti-Ukrainian pogroms β€” these are actions against the Ukrainian people, and not politics. The ignoring of the crimes of the TCC by the international society, even with a reference to the necessity of defense β€” this is an action against the Ukrainian people. The ignoring of Russian terrorism, the legitimization of Russian politicians β€” this is literally complicity in the genocide, because not only crimes of geopolitical scale are carried out before their eyes, but also the laws regarding which they also have certain obligations are violated, Putin is not arrested under the ICC warrant, Lavrov and Peskov are admitted into different countries without arrests ignoring their crimes. And the impunity of companies which work in Russia, financing terrorism, the impunity for the USA for the financing of terrorism is what if not hypocrisy? πŸ€’ This world is sick!

❓ What essence does Russia put in the terrorizing of Ukrainians with terrorist acts, murders, genocides, starving with hunger, absence of electricity, water and heat? Obviously to frighten, to make life unbearable, to force to capitulate. But to capitulate for the sake of what? For the sake of life in slavery? For the sake of that to give away one’s home, memories of childhood, the past, the sacrifices of ancestors completely for free? And why does Russia need this? Why does it need foreign territory? Do they really have little of it? They already have the largest territory in the world. Is it really tight for them? No, there the population is 1 person per 60 square kilometers, and the majority of the territories are generally not settled, not developed, there are no roads, infrastructure. Maybe they are poor and they need Donbas in order to feed themselves? No, they already have a lot of oil and gas. Then why, for what do they need Ukraine? Unless as a bridgehead for conducting war against the whole of Europe…
