2 hours of driving Maa (grandmother) back and forth to the clinic brought out stories about the family. One story led to another and somewhere between traffic signals and clinic visit, I heard decades of struggle, sacrifice and faith.
Maa got married to my Dada in the early 1960s when he had no income. They survived on pocket money from her father-in-law.
Dada took loans to complete his accountancy studies while raising two children. His first income was ₹500 in 1971. He gave Maa ₹20 to run the house.
A fruit seller once suggested a tiny empty space in Khadia. That became my grandfather’s first office. I spent many Rath Yatras there as a child.
Their friends contributed ₹5,000 each so they could buy that office space for ₹35,000 in the 70s.
Their first refrigerator cost ₹2,000.
They were the first in their area to buy a TV when it came to India. During cricket matches, the whole neighbourhood would gather at their place.
Dada again took loan and Maa sold her jewellery to buy their first house. That’s the house where I was born.
Listening to her made me realise, once again, how every generation quietly carries struggles the next generation never fully sees.
Bit by bit. Piece by piece.
My father sometimes says they were never treated well by many relatives during their childhood. He had his own share of struggles. Although he is proud that despite all the struggles he went to CN Vidyalaya for his school education.
He often says he had just started earning when I was born. I still remember scooter rides around Kankaria and feeding fishes there.
At that time, that was luxury. That was comfort. Today the definition of luxury has changed completely.
What was luxury then barely exists now. And what we call luxury today rarely gives comfort.
Take a moment to remember, cherish and value everything your parents, grandparents and generations before them went through to give you the life you’re living today.
Happy Deepavali 🪔
May this light awaken the divine light within you. Wishing everyone peace, health and happiness.
Starting today, Gujarat is officially in holiday mode for an entire week!
No office, no work, no work-related calls. The world can wait.
Don't fall sick, and try not to have an emergency. Your doctor is either vacationing somewhere exotic or eating mathiya at his mama's or kaka's house.
Gujarat will be back to business on Satam, after Labh Pancham. Till then, Happy Deepavali! 🪔
Agar predictable nahi hoti toh problem hota. 😋
#Ramayana – ⭐️⭐️⭐️½
The most loved Indian epic receives a solid visual upgrade, with noticeable innovation in the action sequences and world-building. The makers clearly understood the challenge: they couldn’t over-improvise the dramatic portions, yet they also couldn’t skip them. As a result, the film feels predictable whenever it shifts into drama mode, especially in scenes that heavily emphasise virtues and family values.
That said, the film works largely because of its casting and performances.
@TheNameIsYash is outstanding, delivering a menacing screen presence that truly dominates. @niteshtiwari22 has written the role brilliantly, focusing on Ravana’s willpower, multi-faceted personality, and stubbornness. The scene in which Ravana’s ten voices speak stands out as a highlight.
#RanbirKapoor fits the role perfectly. His calm and composed demeanour works in the film’s favour, and he receives the right heroic elevation at the right moments. @Sai_Pallavi92 delivers a strong emotional performance as Sita while also showcasing her valour. @Rakulpreet is effective as Surpanakha as well.
The VFX shines particularly in the Jatayu sequence during the pre-climax. Rama’s encounter with the sea of rakshasas also gives him the strongest elevation in the entire film, and the war sequences have been impressively reimagined.
On the downside, the background score by A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer doesn’t fully work in a few places (though the songs are good).
Overall, this most beloved story deserves the upgrade. It successfully introduces the epic of Rama, Sita, and Ravana to a new generation. 👍
Lok Sabha se lekar Assemblies tak, janta ne hisaab kar diya. Ab dairy board ki baari hai!
Doodh ka doodh, paani ka paani ho chuka hai. RaGa abhi bhi malai dhoondh rahe hain. 😂
With reviews coming in, looks like the spend is going to be worth it.
Booked 6 IMAX tickets for Ramayana, almost ₹10K, without knowing how good it will be but it doesn't matter.
For decades, the world has seen India only through Mughal courts and British colonies, as if Bharat had no story before invaders arrived. Ramayana, with its international backing, can change that.
Hoping it does well, so the world finally sees and hears the stories that are truly ours.

I am Gujarati by birth and have spent much of my life in Tamil Nadu.
Both celebrate Deepavali, but quite differently.
In Tamil Nadu, the main celebration begins before sunrise. In Gujarat, the festivities extend from Vagh Baras to Labh Pancham.
Every day has a tradition, a place in our Panchang and something worth learning.
Here’s how I understand them.

A very unsafe feeling at @ahmairport. Goons shouting for passengers and threatening over taxi rides at T1. Landed at 2.30 am and it took 30 mins to find a ride as they blocked all app drivers out of fear. The GDX agency were trying hard handling them and also registered an application of assault at the Airport Police Station. One of their guys was recently attacked outside the airport by these goons for doing his duty. What I learnt is, those guys require support from Airport leadership. Please help them. They need your support and a little autonomy to handle this nuisance. It is an extremely bad start for anyone travelling to Ahmedabad. I am sure they will receive help.

This interaction in Banaskantha will make you very happy!
It is amazing how agriculture, dairy and animal husbandry have furthered women empowerment.

Watch | Speaking in Banaskantha today, PM Narendra Modi said he would prefer to be addressed as ‘Aapna Narendrabhai’ (our Narendrabhai) rather than ‘Pradhan Mantri’ or ‘Saheb’ in Gujarat.

GenZ email calling in sick this morning barely an hour before an important engagement.
Don’t know whether I should take offence to the sheer nonchalance or be inspired by the clarity and brevity.

Being the LoP @RahulGandhi, I suggest you refrain from politicising every issue. Also, casually labelling commercial and legal matters as criminal is unacceptable.
You have repeatedly decried the successes of Indian industry & our entrepreneurs. Now, are you trying to incite our business leaders to join you in spreading distrust & toxicity?
For decades, your party had smothered the spirit of the Indian entrepreneurs under the stifling ‘Licence-Quota Raj’ & inflicted poverty on crores of Indians.
On the other hand, our government led by PM @narendramodi values the Indian industry as job creators & drivers of economic growth. Our policies have been tailored to enable enterprise, support industry and encourage investment.
Political parties, leaders, governments and institutions share an equal responsibility to support our industry, strengthen our farmers and secure the future of our youth.
Therefore, it is essential to engage constructively rather than casting baseless aspersions to suit your narrow political motives.
The Constitution of India ensures justice to all its citizens & our Honourable Courts are entrusted with upholding it. History is witness to the shoddy manner in which you, your party and the PMs belonging to your party have demeaned the judiciary.
So Rahul ji, refrain from seeing ghosts everywhere.
🚨 NEW PROJECT, SAME SCRIPT: PROTESTS, ARSON, "FOREIGN FUNDS"
China is building the world's largest dam, a 60,000 MW monster at Medog, just across the Arunachal border. Nearly 3x the Three Gorges. No water sharing treaty with India. One decision in Beijing could flood Assam or choke the Brahmaputra.
India's answer: the 11,200 MW Siang Upper Multipurpose Project. ₹1.5 lakh crore. India's biggest hydropower project ever. A 9 billion cubic metre reservoir to absorb anything China throws downstream.
And what happened the moment work picked up?
A mob in Pasighat torched an NHPC office and a police station and vandalised the houses of local leaders, including the state BJP chief.
Notice the pattern. Vizhinjam port, Kudankulam nuclear plant, Sterlite, now Siang. Every time India builds something big, protests erupt on cue. And a police FIR now alleges foreign funds are being used to sustain the anti dam protests.
China builds dams in Tibet with zero protests. India tries to protect its own river and gets arson.
Locals' concerns about land and rehabilitation deserve a fair hearing. Burning police stations doesn't.
Only God can save this insane Nation from these type of bastard citizens.
