Unlocking Maharashtra’s Narmada Water Entitlement from Ukai Dam Attended the 15th Meeting of the Review Committee for the Narmada Control Authority, chaired by Hon Union Minister C R Paatil ji (online). Maharashtra presented its official case on its entitled share of 10 TMC of water under the Narmada Water Disputes Tribunal award, 5 TMC through a diversion canal and 5 TMC from the Ukai Dam. Following Maharashtra’s presentation, Hon Union Minister C R Paatil ji issued immediate directives for the release of 5 TMC of water from the Ukai Dam. The Hon Union Minister for Jal Shakti and the CM of Gujarat were also requested to grant the necessary formal approval for the diversion canal arrangement. The decision follows the earlier meeting held in the presence of Hon Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amitbhai Shah, where it was decided that Maharashtra’s entitled share would be allocated as per established regulations. Mumbai Metro Line 12A: Accelerating Connectivity, Transforming Urban Mobility Chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure at Mantralaya in Mumbai, today. Approved Mumbai Metro Line 12A, spanning 18.40 km from Manpada-Katai Naka to Taloja via Kalyan Phata. Mumbai Metro Line 12A will strengthen connectivity to industrial and logistics hubs while enhancing transport links between Kalyan-Dombivli and Navi Mumbai. The entirely elevated corridor will have 12 proposed stations and an integrated flyover comprising a 6.93 km four-lane section and an 8.69 km six-lane section. The corridor is expected to cater to approximately 4.74 lakh passengers daily and reduce travel time by 40–50% compared to road travel. Directed that the project be completed within three and a half years. Also emphasised accelerating all ongoing metro projects across Maharashtra to ensure their timely completion. Strengthening Wildlife Conservation and Advancing Sustainable Infrastructure in Maharashtra Chaired the 26th meeting of the Maharashtra State Wildlife Board in Mumbai, today. Approved the proposal to declare the Kolamarka Conservation Reserve in Gadchiroli district a Wildlife Sanctuary, recognising its ecological significance as a natural habitat for wild buffaloes. Additionally, approved proposals for 14 new Conservation Reserves across Pune, Raigad, Nashik, Nandurbar, Thane, Palghar and Chandrapur districts. These include Velhe-Mulshi, Bhor Girigad, Dindori, Surgana, Taharabad, Chinchpada, Alibag, Ghera Manikgad, Lonavala, Guntara, Jawhar, Asherigad, Dhamni and Ekara. These decisions mark an important step towards strengthening wildlife conservation and protecting Maharashtra’s rich biodiversity. Approved the proposal to include 588.767 hectares of revenue and private land across six villages, within the expanded Tansa Wildlife Sanctuary, with the objective of making the sanctuary human-free. Also approved the proposals to declare 100.139 sq. km of the Koka Wildlife Sanctuary and 255.79 sq. km of the Jayakwadi Bird Sanctuary as Critical Wildlife Habitats. Directed that routine dam repairs, rehabilitation works and desilting within wildlife sanctuaries be incorporated into their respective management plans. Approved proposals for essential infrastructure in protected areas, Eco-Sensitive Zones and tiger corridors, including irrigation, healthcare, water supply, bridges, roads, underground optical fibre networks and electricity lines. Thummidihetti Project: Detailed Assessment, Maharashtra’s Interests First Chaired a meeting with the delegation of Telangana CM Revanth Reddy regarding the Tummidihatti Barrage in Mumbai today. At the request of Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Maharashtra will independently examine the issues related to increasing the height of the Tummidihatti irrigation project. A joint committee comprising the Chief Secretaries and Secretaries of the Water Resources Departments of both States will study the technical aspects and the potential submergence of areas in Maharashtra. The approach will remain constructive and cooperative, extending support to Telangana while safeguarding the interests of the people of Maharashtra. Maharashtra has always favoured resolving issues with neighbouring States through mutual cooperation. The State remains open to supporting Telangana, provided Maharashtra’s interests are safeguarded. However, since the actual submergence area was found to exceed earlier estimates following the previous approval, a thorough assessment of the new proposal is essential. The study will examine the impact of the proposed site change on submergence, the concerned wildlife sanctuary and additional land requirements. Any concerns raised by Telangana will be discussed jointly, with expert opinions sought if necessary. Matters concerning water allocation and statutory clearances fall under the Central Water Commission. Maharashtra will present its fact-based assessment when sought, and further decisions will follow an independent study and detailed technical discussions. CAMPA: Advancing Forest Conservation and Community Welfare Chaired a meeting of the Maharashtra Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (Maha CAMPA) Governing Body in Mumbai today. CAMPA funds can play a significant role in transforming the lives of people residing in Conservation Reserve areas and bringing lasting improvements to their quality of life. Directed that these funds be utilised to complete the relocation and rehabilitation of villages situated within tiger reserves and other protected areas. Emphasised on bringing greater transparency to CAMPA-funded projects by revising the existing verification process and conducting sample surveys of completed afforestation works. Directed relevant departments to give due attention to soil and water conservation, as well as afforestation activities, and ensure their timely completion. Directed that a proposal be made to the Centre under the National CAMPA Fund for the phased relocation and rehabilitation of villages within the State’s reserved forest areas. Directed the State CAMPA Authority to engage contractual staff to address manpower requirements and complete the process of opening an account with the Reserve Bank of India for the State’s reserve fund. Better investment options should also be explored to maximise interest earnings. The State’s ambitious 300-crore tree plantation campaign should be supported through large-scale afforestation under this fund, with a focus on bringing non-forest land under forest cover.
