BNB’s New L1 Targets Sub-Second Finality supra:native Already Runs Native Oracles and High-Throughput Consensus BNB Chain end @cz_binance Unveils Plans for High-Performance L1 as High-Speed Race Intensifies #BNB Chain has updated its official documentation with details on a new Layer 1 blockchain, provisionally called New L1. The chain will run in parallel with BNB Smart Chain (BSC), connected via a native bridge, and will use BNB as its sole token for gas, staking, and governance. No new token will be issued. CZ has described the approach as "multiple chains, one coin" According to the documentation, New L1 targets a 200 ms block interval, approximately 20 ms pre-confirmations via sub-blocks, and sub-second finality using an enhanced version of Parlia consensus with BLS fast finality. The design decouples transaction ordering from execution (async execution with adaptive lag), uses a flat key-value store with cumulative lattice hashing (LtHash), and includes Multi-Lane for reserved gas capacity on latency-sensitive traffic. It also plans native account abstraction and an optional shielded privacy pool. A multi-validator internal devnet is already running. Public testnet is targeted for the end of 2026, with mainnet expected in early 2027. The stated use cases include high-frequency trading, on-chain order books, payments, and agent-driven activity. The announcement arrives as several projects are already operating or developing high-performance infrastructure aimed at similar workloads. supra:native’s Existing Stack supra:native has been running a mainnet built around its Moonshot Consensus protocol and Tribes & Clans validator architecture. In controlled benchmarks, the system has demonstrated throughput of up to approximately 500,000 TPS with end-to-end latency under one second. Pre-confirmation times in those tests have been measured around 160 ms, tied to data availability certificate generation. Current live mainnet activity remains relatively modest, with observed throughput in the tens of transactions per second, consistent with early-stage adoption. supra:native’s architecture is MultiVM, with Move as the primary virtual machine and EVM support available on devnet (SVM is planned). It has vertically integrated several services at the protocol level, including native price feeds, dVRF, and zero-block-delay automation. These components are designed to operate with lower latency than external integrations. Oracles and Data Services Reliable, low-latency price data is relevant for several of the applications both chains are targeting, particularly perpetuals and liquidations. #BNB Chain has operated Binance Oracle since 2022, which aggregates data from multiple sources and uses threshold signatures. However, the majority of major DeFi protocols on BSC continue to use Chainlink. The New L1 documentation does not describe a native, protocol-level oracle. As an EVM-compatible chain, it is expected to support external oracles such as Chainlink in the same manner as BSC. supra:native’s oracles are native to the protocol. The design is intended to reduce reliance on external data providers and minimize latency for applications that require frequent price updates. Automation and Agent Activity BNB’s New L1 documentation explicitly lists agent-driven activity among its target use cases. Features such as low pre-confirmation times and Multi-Lane capacity are relevant for agents that need predictable inclusion and fast feedback. supra:native has already implemented native automation with zero-block delay, allowing smart contracts to schedule and trigger execution without external keepers. Combined with its native oracles and MultiVM support, this provides a more complete environment for agentic applications on a live network. Key Technical and Strategic Differences BNB New L1 prioritizes EVM compatibility, async execution, Multi-Lane capacity reservation, and privacy primitives while remaining within the existing BNB token and ecosystem. Supra has focused on consensus performance, MultiVM support, and vertical integration of data and automation services. Supra is live today; BNB New L1 remains on an internal devnet with a public testnet still months away. BNB’s primary advantage is the existing liquidity and user base on BSC. Supra’s advantage is that many of the performance and integration features being described for New L1 are already operational. The late-2026 testnet will provide the first public data on whether BNB’s latency targets hold under real conditions.
