I'm not sure I've been more proud of a data project. The USA 🇺🇸 Prep WAR Leaderboard now houses pages for each of the 6 regions, meaning you can find ALL of my high school player ratings in one spot.
We're up to 25,000 players & counting!

When they tell you sports gambling is harmless: no it isn't. Nicole Noren on why she left ESPN.
An important and poignant perspective on ESPN's embrace of sports gambling

Here's my weekly attempt to predict the CIF NorCal Regional 🏈 matchups, as well as visuals of my research on NorCal & state performance by section. I use MaxPreps rankings to project section champions, and my own research to create divisional placements.

I enjoyed doing this story. Have known @PlacerAthletics FB coach Joey Montoya & brother @SMontoyaMP of @MaxPreps for years.
This book and potential movie is rooted in their grandfather's remarkable coaching impact of the Placer Hillmen

The MLB postseason commercials are especially unsuitable for young fans this year
And that's even before accounting for all the awful political ads
My 7-year-old son can’t watch sports with me anymore. Not because of the games, but because of the commercials.
The horror movie trailers are the worst. The terrifying imagery can send him into a spiral of anxiety that lasts well beyond the 30-second ad. These are images his young mind simply isn’t ready to process.
We talk a lot about mental health in this country, especially in sports. Yet between the relentless gambling ads, alcohol promotions and genuinely disturbing horror trailers, I’ve reached a point where watching an MLB or NFL game with my kids requires me to monitor every commercial break.
I love sports. I work in sports. Some of my favorite childhood memories were made watching games with my family. I want that for my sons.
I wish we could exercise better judgment about what we’re putting in front of families during sporting events.
Sports should bring generations together. Instead, I’m increasingly forced to treat game day like an adults-only event.
Something feels very wrong about that.

I had a great weekend at the WWBA Underclass in Fort Myers. I ended up winning MVPitcher of the tournament along with my team winning the whole tournament. I threw a combined 5.2IP with 7K,0H,0BB,0R, in my outings I had a combined 82% strikes. These were my last two outings of the year. Thank you to Trosky for the opportunity to play this summer/fall. Surprised? Not me!
UC Santa Barbara sophomore Josh Jannicelli could be the next great Gaucho arm 💪
Jannicelli is a 6-foot-5, 200-pound righthander who leans heavily on a high-70s/low-80s changeup that already looks like a plus pitch. He also wields a low-90s fastball, curve and sweeper.
There is considerable refinement left but @UCSB_Baseball appears to have another fascinating developmental project in Jannicelli ⚾️

Jacob Misiorowski's 232 ERA+ is the best in the National League in a full 162-game season since Bob Gibson's 258 in 1968.
Pedro Martinez has the AL and all-time record for his 291 in 1999. Greg Maddux topped Miz's mark in the shortened 1994 and 1995 seasons.

The Giants lost 5-1. They went 65-97, missing the playoffs for the ninth time in 10 years. Before and after a likely lockout, every dollar and trade chip needs to be spent on rebuilding the pitching staff.
(Also someone needs to fix the chicken tenders.)

Sometimes we get asked how our different formulated rankings can have such different results. You can tell as many stories with data as you can have opinions on players.
What we try to offer are helpful tools, and you can decide which of them you trust the most!
I love it. Thank you @rossjensen for putting this together!
