Before she was a Golden Girl, Bea Arthur was a Marine. 🇺🇸 Long before becoming a television icon, she served in the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Reserve during WWII and rose to the rank of staff sergeant. This Veterans Month, we honor her service and the trailblazing women who answered the call to serve.

"Rest now, brother. We have the watch. And I'll see you in Valhalla.” Carter, you are talking about an election, not a battlefield. “We have the watch” carries a particular significance in military tradition. It speaks to duty, sacrifice, and the responsibility of carrying on when others can no longer stand beside us. Valhalla is a reference to warriors who have fallen in battle. To casually borrow the language of military sacrifice for political theater diminishes the meaning behind those words. Losing an election is not falling in battle. Political loyalty is not military brotherhood. Campaigning for a candidate is not standing watch over your fellow service members. There is a difference between honoring sacrifice and appropriating its language for dramatic effect. Some traditions deserve more respect than that. @GovWesMoore Carter Elliott works for you. His position and close relationship with you should demand a greater sense of judgment, dignity, and respect. @CarterElliottIV owes an apology to the men and women who serve, those who have served, and especially the families of those who gave their lives in service to this nation. Political campaigns come and go. Elections are won and lost. But the sacrifice of our fallen deserves something far greater than being reduced to a political joke. Military sacrifice is not political theater. Our Gold Star families deserve respect. Our fallen deserved to be honored in words and deeds.
Rest now, brother. We have the watch. And I'll see you in Valhalla.

🚨 DAN COX UNVEILS DAY-ONE PLAN TO CUT 338 MARYLAND TAXES AND FEES, TARGET ELECTRIC BILLS Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Cox is promising immediate action on Maryland’s affordability crisis, outlining an ambitious agenda to reduce taxes, lower electricity costs and roll back regulations if elected governor. His proposal targets expenses affecting Maryland households, although several measures would require legislative approval or action by independent regulators. ▪️ 338 TAXES AND FEES: Cox pledges to suspend or reduce hundreds of charges, including vehicle registration fees, gas taxes, vehicle emissions inspection fees and family-related taxes. ▪️ ELECTRICITY RELIEF: Cox proposes negotiating lower electricity costs and returning savings to ratepayers. The plan does not specify how much households would save or which agreements could be renegotiated. ▪️ AFFORDABILITY EMERGENCY: Cox promises to declare a statewide emergency focused on rising household expenses and government regulations. ▪️ PROPERTY TAXES: His proposal calls for lower property assessment caps, although Maryland’s assessment and local taxation systems would limit what a governor could change unilaterally. ▪️ ENERGY PRODUCTION: Cox wants to accelerate the return of electric generating plants and reduce regulatory obstacles, subject to operational, environmental and federal requirements. The proposal establishes a clear set of campaign priorities, but implementation would depend on legal authority, legislative cooperation and financing. Which of these changes could take effect immediately, and how would Maryland replace revenue lost through the proposed tax and fee reductions?

On November 1, 1864, Maryland became the first state south of the Mason-Dixon line to abolish slavery by a vote of the people. Today, we reflect on this pivotal day in our history and the bravery of those who fought to make freedom a reality. May we carry forward their courage and continue to build a more just union for all.

Fenzel and Moore need to be held accountable by the Army. I believe both have been dishonest about Moore’s military awards, and their actions deserve serious scrutiny. Fenzel, in particular, should face a formal military investigation, including consideration of recall to active duty and court-martial proceedings if the evidence warrants it: which I believe it does. Military medals are not political pawns. They are earned through service, sacrifice, and merit. They should never be used as political currency, nor should anyone's military record be embellished for personal or political gain. To lie, is to dishonor the men and women who died wearing the very same uniform. Serving your country honorably means being truthful about your service, your accomplishments, and the awards you have earned. I believe Moore has failed to uphold that standard. A demonstration that he lacks integrity and honesty. But what I find even more troubling is the silence of our elected leaders who are themselves veterans. These are men and women who wore the uniform, took the oath, and were taught the importance of honor, integrity, and accountability. They have had ample opportunity to question the discrepancies surrounding Moore's claims. Yet, rather than demand answers, too many have chosen silence. Why? Because they share the same political party? They have placed party loyalty above honor. They have placed political allegiance above integrity. They have turned their backs on the very military values they once swore to uphold. The military teaches that integrity means doing what is right, even when no one is watching. It means having the moral courage to speak up when something is wrong, even when doing so is uncomfortable, unpopular, or politically inconvenient. Those values should not disappear when someone trades a military uniform for an elected office. Maryland deserves leaders who understand that accountability is not reserved for members of the opposing party. Our country deserves veterans in public office who continue to uphold the same standards of honor they were expected to live by while serving. Integrity is not a Republican value or a Democratic value. It is a matter of character. And character is revealed not when doing the right thing is easy, but when doing the right thing comes at a personal or political cost. Integrity matters more than party: Every damn day of the week. #NoMoore
