Pink wrote this on Christ’s cry from the cross, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” The Son was forsaken as the sin-bearer in His people’s place. That is why God can promise every believer, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
The “handwriting of requirements” was the record of debt that stood against us. God did not overlook it or lower it. He nailed it to the cross, where Christ paid it in full. Nothing written against the believer is still outstanding.

From “Morning & Evening” by Charles H. Spurgeon.
“To forget to praise God is to refuse to benefit ourselves; for praise, like prayer, is one great means of promoting the growth of the spiritual life.”
From “Morning & Evening” by Charles H. Spurgeon.
“We should know Jesus, for we have the Scriptures to reflect his image, and yet how possible it is for us to open that precious book and have no glimpse of the Wellbeloved!”
Luther, Calvin, and Knox are still household names, but MacArthur’s point is that the Reformation wasn’t their achievement. As ordinary people got the Scriptures in their own language, the Spirit used His Word to convert souls. That Word hasn’t lost its power.
Luther dated his Ninety-five Theses October 31, 1517, as a call to debate the sale of indulgences. Rome claimed a treasury of merits the pope could draw from. Luther pointed the church back to the treasure it already had: the gospel itself.

Hebrews was written to believers under pressure to drift from Christ. They are told to imitate the faith of the men who taught them, because the Lord those men trusted has not changed. Church history is the record of His faithfulness, not theirs.
