Kudos to ICUS for taking this on with a formal petition. The boxed warning never matched the safety data and has caused real underuse of contrast echo, particularly in women where image quality suffers most. Long overdue.
Today, we @icus_society submitted a citizens petition to the @FDA to remove the black box warning for #UEAs. After 2 decades of use, the science is clear: #UEAs remain among the safest of all contrast agents and it's time for the label to change. DM if you want to help.

Today, we @icus_society submitted a petition to the @FDA recommending approval of a whole body indication for #UEAs. Contrast isn't specific about the organs it enters, why should our regulations be? When the majority of use is off-label, there's an issue with the label.

New Pub Alert! Our recent analysis of FAERS data @EchoResPract reinforces #UEA safety. Despite relative increases in reported events during COVID-19 that mirrored overall reporting trends, #UEAs remained safer than Gd or iodinated contrast. Time to remove the black box? @ASE360
FDA reports showed more serious adverse events during COVID-19, but the effect of reporting changes is uncertain. Reanalyzing FDA data, we found 11% of the rise in SAEs for ultrasound enhancing agents was due to declining reporting. @DocStrom @n_spetko
