If you’re a doctor and a BMA member, there is still time to vote in the BMA Council elections.
I’m standing for Council with a group of reps called DoctorsTogether. Some of you may already know me as part of my work on the national resident doctors committee, and my organising for the pay and jobs campaigns that I’ve been doing over the past few years. I’m standing because I genuinely believe the profession is at a turning point and the decisions made by Council over the next few years are going to really matter.
We are facing a growing crisis of doctor unemployment and training bottlenecks, pay that is still down in real terms, unsafe scope creep without proper safeguards, and a generation of doctors graduating with huge student loan debt. These are not small issues and they are not going to fix themselves. They need people on Council who are actually willing to push for change.
Our group is focused on:
– Securing full pay restoration
– Pushing for full UK graduate prioritisation
– Fixing the doctor unemployment and training bottleneck crisis
– Stopping unsafe scope creep
– Student loan forgiveness for doctors
I’ve been involved in the BMA because I believe a trade union should actually stand up for its members and improve their working lives, not just manage decline. If elected, that’s exactly what I intend to keep doing on Council.
If you want a union that delivers real results for doctors with a group of doctors who have a proven track of delivering locally/nationally, please consider voting for all the @DocsTogether_ candidates in the order listed here (put in alphabetical order for ease with suggested ranking order next to them).

Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike from 7 to 13 April.
Officers were making significant progress towards a viable offer after weeks of negotiations, but then the Government moved the goalposts at the last minute.
We need a fair offer on both jobs and pay.
Watch RDC Chair @fletchjack give a full announcement 👇youtube.com/watch?v=mn9GsFZS…
Resident doctors have been left with no choice but to strike. Weeks of negotiations with the Government have failed to deliver enough progress on pay, with the goalposts being moved at the last minute.
We have called six days of industrial action to make the Government listen, stop the game playing, and come back with an offer that delivers fairly on both jobs and pay.

Some context:
1 - I’m currently fighting to get @TheBMA onto the Leng Implementation Group responsible for implementing the Leng review. Leng did not deliver what we wanted, and lots of concerns remain, but it’s a start.
BMA representation on that group would be way more effective to ensure the Leng review is implemented in full and trusts/ GP practices are held to account, as opposed to me venting continuously on twitter or writing motions at a conference.
2 - I send horrific job adverts directly to the NHSE exec team, alongside local reps, to take them head on (e.g. the one in Bristol recently).
3 - @Aadam_Aziz and the team have been working on some merch to help make clear which folks are doctors, to facilitate campaigning in the workplace. Watch this space for the merch 👀
Thats what we’re doing as a resident doctors committee.
The BMA also has an association wide Preventing Doctors Substitution group dedicated wholly to this issue.
I’m not sure what that group has produced, other than the recent survey, since Leng reported last year but RDC is very much fighting on this. Scope of practice documents are a good start but they clearly haven’t fixed the issue, given it’s still rampant.
We need truth told to power, proper resident/ doctor representation on the implementation groups to ensure accountability, paired alongside workplace campaigning to win. I’m personally getting on with trying to facilitate those.
That’s alongside a pay campaign, a jobs campaign, this, as well as a ton of other issues we are trying to fix at the same time!
