‘If all else fails, sue.’ This is an astounding new report. We know that big food companies deliberately engineer and market unhealthy products so that we eat too much of them, too often. And lots of you will have seen that this is why multiple lawsuits are beginning in the USA. But what you probably didn’t realise is that it isn’t just people who are harmed by unhealthy food who are using the law. The companies who make unhealthy food are doing it too. But on a MUCH bigger scale...🧵 theguardian.com/society/2026…

Replying to @DoctorChrisVT
@DoctorChrisVT your caller asking for the proper medical terms for body parts to be used reminds of an old story. GP asks a little boy 'how are your waterworks?' Boy turns to father and asks 'Does he mean my penis, Daddy?'.

A terrible loss. She was the world's premiere infectious disease reporter -- an icon for all of us in public health science and journalism alike.
It is hard to believe that Helen Branswell has passed away. Just heartbreaking. On January 4, 2020, Helen wrote STAT's first story on a mystery pneumonia outbreak in China. She saw the pandemic coming well before anyone was paying attention. Helen was a journalist who knew more than most of the experts she interviewed. She understood the science, the history and the politics of every outbreak she covered. She asked the hardest (and best) questions and never let me get away with a vague answer Experts learned from her. I certainly did It's hard to imagine a world of pandemics, biological threats and so much more without a Helen Branswell to explain it all. statnews.com/2026/10/13/hele…

I'm excited to present Barons next Thursday at the University of Northern Iowa! It’s gonna be a whirlwind, and honestly, I can’t wait. The talk is at 6pm and open to the public, but come early because there’s going to be a food truck.

A new RCT shows that even when UPF meals are nutritionally matched to non-UPF meals, they trigger higher insulin spikes, alter energy metabolism, and also change how your brain responds to food cues. Food processing matters far beyond macronutrients! nature.com/articles/s42255-0…

Always read the labels! Why are supermarkets adding ultra processed ingredients to this !!! Lidl is adding pea protein to beef mince and calling it “High Protein”. What exactly is pea protein? It's a highly processed powder extracted from yellow peas. Sounds utterly unappetising to me! Why on earth are we messing about with perfectly good beef? Give me proper British beef, with one ingredient: BEEF! This is exactly why I use my local butcher. I want to know what I'm eating and where it's come from. Support British farmers and read those labels! 🇬🇧
