For aviation/national security nerds... I noticed an interesting NOTAM that popped up yesterday (Feb 28), FDC 2/8783. The tl;dr is:
For aircraft flying in or through the U.S. ADIZ (Air Defense Identification Zone), they must use the transponder code assigned by ATC.
Use of 1200 or UAT anonymity mode is not authorized. If the aircraft has 1090 MHz Extended Squitter (Mode S transponder) ADS-B Out, they must report their ICAO aircraft address and not a Privacy ICAO Address (PIA).
And I have to wonder if it has anything to do with private aircraft flying into or out of the U.S., in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
