Total annual vessel fees were estimated at $5 billion to $13 billion, according to Clarksons Research, cited in the United Nations’ Review of Maritime Transport 2025, covering all vessel categories i.e., tankers, container, ro-ro/pctc, bulkers… Imagine what the U.S. maritime industrial base could do with just 2 years of collected fees?
The Trump administration has formally published its proposal to extend the suspension of U.S. port fees on China-linked ships for another two months, through January 9, 2027.
The move would further delay a key measure aimed at countering China's dominance in shipbuilding and maritime logistics.
The extension is not yet final, with public comments due October 30.

The burden of proof should not fall on us. American crews are ready. American vessels are capable. But they’re being dealt a hand that can’t be played.
It’s time to end the waiver for good.

Undercutting one American industry in a (failing) attempt to help another is no strategy for American strength.

COSCO, a Chinese-military company and one of the world’s largest shippers, is using its vessels to conduct espionage operations near U.S. coastlines.
Select Committee Chairman @RepMoolenaar, @RepRickCrawford, and @RepCarlos sent a letter to @DHSGov Secretary Markwayne Mullin urging him to review and revoke COSCO Shipping’s privileges of receiving fewer inspections at American ports.
You’ll be backed six ways to Sunday Jerry when you start understanding the commercial sector along with the defense base is synonymous. How much capex has to sit on sidelines before you can say the bogus, failed and ill advised Jones Act waiver has not lowered gasoline and diesel prices. The domestic maritime industry is not your enemy.

.@RepCarbajal asks @SecMullinDHS important questions about enforcing federal law on ships exploiting the Political Jones Act Waiver.
Are foreign companies properly reporting and paying federal taxes? Are vessel owners complying with immigration restrictions on foreign crew members? Are they meeting labor requirements? How about following America’s environmental regulations?

The Political Jones Act Waiver doesn't impact just one class of vessel. It's about the future of American maritime investment.
The longer the waiver continues, the greater the risk to US shipyards and an irreplaceable workforce of American citizens. 🇺🇸⚓️
