ByteDance has every right to speak up against the divestment bill and challenge it in court. But this moral outrage feels so fake. When has this company — who happily aids CCP censorship and propaganda in China — ever cared about freedom of expression?

This should be said loudly and repeatedly! Political science will die if it continues much further down the path of obsessing over methodological minutiae & persnickety nitpicking over causal inference - all centred on analysis of more & trivial questions no one cares about...
Some wise advice by Theda Skocpol about scholarship.👇 From Skocpol’s 2017 interview with Eric Schickler: annualreviews.org/docserver/…

Well-meaning Americans who say this US bill on TikTok is anti-Asian racism / xenophobic appear unaware of the Global South's wariness of TikTok. India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Taiwan, Indonesia, etc. — all have outright bans or limits on TikTok. These are Asian countries!!

Just as I thought, pressure from corporations like Foxconn/Apple plays a more critical role than protests in the CCP's easing of ZeroCovid policy, since the Chinese govt can crush #chinaprotest effortlessly. wsj.com/articles/letter-from…

China is the outlier of covid vaccination - it has very low vaccination rate for high risk groups and those over 80 y/o, instead prioritizing urban elites, middle class, and young working population, very poor-quality vaccines too, resulting in extremely limited choice now..
Caixin reporting that there'll be a big vaccination drive in #China, with the pressure on local governments to achieve over 90% full vaccination (including booster) for those over 80, over the next 2 months. A/C to official figures, current rate over 80 y/o with booster only 40%.

Jiang rose from Tian'anmen crackdown 1989, died amid the biggest protests since. He is the first overt 'neoliberal' CCP leader, SOE privatization led to massive layoffs, dismantling the welfare state, opened CCP membership to the rich, joined the WTO. He shows emotions, unlike Xi

In a strange way, "Xi Jinping, càonìmā" sounds so visceral and to the point, when chanted by mainland students 😂
I remember back in May when Australian media called me racist for holding a sign in Sydney that read “Xi Jinping Cǎonímǎ” - translating to “Fuck Xi Jinping.” 6 months later and Chinese students in Sydney are chanting “Xi Jinping Cǎonímǎ” themselves 😊 I am a trend setter 😊

The CCP regime will use extreme measures including inhumane interrogation, torture, demonization to crush protests in mainland China, just as they did in Hong Kong 2019. Overseas protests will hopefully keep the movement going #ChinaProtests2022
Chinese police going through innocent people's phones one-by-one on a random Shanghai metro. They will be checking for VPNs--illegal in China, & apps like @Twitter, @telegram--all blocked in China, as well as other 'incriminating evidence'. #A4Revolution #ChinaProtests
