New Substack: Attempted to get to the bottom of Brad Lambert's struggles in the professional game, plus some poorly organized analysis/thoughts on his game, his outlook, and his development at the end. draftlookhockey.substack.com…

It is calculated using the formula that Dom lays out in this article, but not including the elements that are not recorded for CHL games (blocks, penalties drawn, on-ice shot attempts for and against). hockey-graphs.com/2016/07/13…

Somewhere in between the Michigan and Trevor Zegras' crazy assist: this assist by Jack Hughes (the 2022 eligible) from last season.

And one last sweet breakout play from Broberg's last shift. Loses the forechecker (Ceci helped a little), finds a ton of open space on the breakout. Outlet pass isn't very good but hey, the game's already over.

Here's a choppy look at the type of breakout+activation we can expect to see more of from Broberg moving forwards. Wheels it out of pressure, starts the breakout, gets the puck back, and then almost gets lit up at the line. Execution is a little broken, but the process is awesome

This play here is exactly what I wanted to see from Broberg, I doubted his ability to make exactly these types of passes in his draft year. Sees the forecheck, finds just a small pocket of space, and is able to speed up his decision-making and find the outlet under pressure.

First NHL point! This is a sweet team goal-- shifting the defence up high in the zone and then attacking the slot with speed is an effective tactic. Broberg makes the ideal play to get the puck low quickly while putting it in a place where his forward can immediately make a play.

This was the first time he really impacted the game: collects a loose puck, tries to wheel it out of pressure, and manages to draw a tripping penalty. Too bad he got tripped, would've looked to see the passing read from him in this situation.

This is what the game score tables could look like if I were to switch the bot over to R using the gt package (which is amazing). Think it is a very clear improvement over the ultra bare-bones Python tables. Good plan?

gotta respect Joakim Kemell's confidence

2022 NHL Draft Notebook Volume 2, with thoughts/clips on Ryan Chesley, Mattias Hävelid, Elias Salomonsson, Isaac Howard, and Frank Nazar. Have found Chesley and Hävelid to be the most impressive of 2022's defencemen thus far, especially Chesley. draftlookhockey.substack.com…

Love the activation off the blueline on this slapper goal from Ryan Chesley
