On hiatus - look for new stuff later in 2026! Anarchist trying to explain politics through human behavior

Imagine two adjacent fruit stands. They both sell apples. The first stand's apples aren't able to be shipped from the farm fast enough, and they are overripe, decaying and moldy. The second's apples are ripe, but chock full of parasitic worms. Do you have a choice in apples?

If the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over & over & expecting different results, what does this say about voters?

When “libertarians” say we need to “save our country”, what do they mean? What do you want to save?

You might say, "Well, I can just choose not to buy apples at all". That would be logical. But I'm sorry to tell you that in this story, all your neighbors will come to a group decision about which apple you will buy. A majority of participants choose which one they think is less bad, and then you are forced to purchase and eat the apple they have chosen Is this a good system?

No matter how much you protest, you will be shouted down and told how bad things would be if the other apple were chosen. Or how chaotic things would be if you were allowed to choose no apples at all. Is this not absurd?

You discover a 3rd fruit stand. The apples aren't great either, but could be preferable considering the alternatives. You try to convince your neighbors that if they won't accept no apples as a solution, at least look at this other one. Most won't even look. They've already tied their choice to their personal identity and can't handle the mental load of changing their mind. The few that look might even admit the apples look better. But they know if they vote that way then it pulls support away from the "less bad" of the first two. Then the worst will certainly win. People from both sides of the fruit debate will believe this. When one fruit stand takes a majority, the supporters of the other will look at the third stand and blame its existence for their loss. Are there really winners here?

Why do people care if anarchy is a radical position? It's the correct position. The alternative is an incorrect position, no matter how popular. It's what lying politicians choose.

The funny thing about people trying to accuse me of being a leftist for hating on the Republican Party is that I hate on the Republican Party because it is way too far left for me.

The real utopia fantasy is the naïve, juvenile belief that if you grant absolute Monopoly power to specific institution, then you can somehow control it with a meaningless suggestion between two pre-chosen identical candidates every few years.
