🚨 New Publication 🚨 Final post of 2024... let's talk about the rapidly evolving evidence around pregnancy after uterine artery embolisation, and the myths around UAE and pregnancy. rdcu.be/d4Epj "We now have level 1 evidence that shows pregnancy after UAE is not just possible, but outcomes comparable to myomectomy ... and similar rate to background age-matched population ... All IRs have a mandate to end the concept that we only treat peri-menopausal patients. In 2024, the pregnancy myth is busted". It is important that we, as IRs, stop talking about 20 year old concepts and data if we want the uptake of UAE to continue as we intend (see my recent @cvirendo blog post). #irad #interventionalradiology #fibroid #adenomyosis #pregnancy @MonashSTM @CVIR_Journal @cirsesociety @IRSA_IRs

Relevant money and career facts about physicians: - They make $15-20/hour for 3-9 years (while they train ) AFTER graduating medical school. So after 8+ years of post high school education, they’ve got this next section of the path before making an above average income. - They’re first in line for professional liability risk on every case they’re involved in. This follows them for years. - They don’t have autonomy to practice. Outside of a cash pay arrangement, the insurance company involved ultimately decides what course of treatment is appropriate. - They can know an approximate range of cost for a given service or procedure, but don’t know exactly how much your bill will be because they can’t know. They have very little say in billing. - They spend many hours doing data entry in between patient visits. This action is what insurance companies and hospital systems require in order to authorize payment. This activity is the most important work of a physician in the eyes of the medical industry. They are the worker bees. The highest paid ones, yes. But definitely not the queen. They are very much willing to work hard for many years. Because they got into medicine to actually practice medicine and to care for their patients. And to most all docs are willing to train for their eventual skill development. But the way attending physicians must practice within the current environment? This system isn’t what they want either. They are on our side.

Literally 100000+ physicians looking to financial independence to get out of the toxic system. Older docs built the system and then sold it. New docs are gonna have to rebuild it for themselves and patients. Right now it’s heavily skewed to health system and insurers.

Heartbroken after seeing a young patient with no medical history, end up with a BIFFL GRADE II dissection of the vertebral artery and subsequent acute PICA infarct immediately after a neck adjustment from the chiropractor. This has to stop. Chiropractors - you HAVE to stop.

📢 As part of a special series, we're featuring the 1st of 4 "Abstracts of the Year" selected for the @SIRspecialists 2024 Conference! #SIR24SLC #SIR2024 These 4 abstracts will be part of the Wednesday March 27th Plenary at SIR2024! @JVIRmedia Abstract 1 of 4: A study on a new Ex Vivo Human Liver Model for Microwave Ablation Investigation! Let's dive in! 🏆🔬 🧪 Study Objective: Develop a dual-perfused ex vivo model using human livers to explore microwave ablation (MWA) techniques. An intriguing approach to understanding MWA in various liver conditions! 🧫👩‍🔬 📌 Study Details: • 12 human livers studied, 7 successfully perfused & treated with MWA • Cold ischemic time averaged 76.8 hours • Observations included bile production, oxygen consumption, and MWA effectiveness 📊 Key Findings: • Perfused MWA resulted in smaller ablation zones compared to nonperfused (SAD: 3.1 cm vs 4.1 cm; LAD: 4.7 cm vs 6.2 cm; p < 0.001) • No significant difference in sphericity (p = 0.87) • Steatotic livers showed larger MWA zones than cirrhotic ones (SAD, LAD, and volume all statistically significant) 🤔 Implications: This model replicates the heat sink effect and allows for detailed study of MWA in different hepatic tissue types. A critical step for precision in MWA procedures! Attend the Wednesday March 27th Plenary at SIR2024 for the full scope! Thank you to @cbortizmd and team for this insightful research! 👏 @UTHealthSARad How could this influence MWA techniques in your practice? Stay tuned for the 2nd abstract of the year summary! 📣 Stay ahead in Vascular & Interventional Radiology with our newsletter: iradpulse.beehiiv.com/subscr… #MicrowaveAblation #LiverResearch #ClinicalInnovation #Radiology #Healthcare #PatientCare #VascularRadiology #MedicalResearch #SIR2024 🩺🔍🌐
