Did you know?
Most forest carbon is found in the living biomass (44 percent) and soil organic matter (45 percent), with the remainder in dead wood and litter.

Amazing topic! Have you noticed the year when the paper was published? The topic could easy fit 2023!
What are the bounds to morphological complexity? Would plants on another planet look different from those here? Probably not due to fundamental evolutionary constraints. Check this @sciam paper by the great Karl Niklas jstor.org/stable/24975914

Do you know about the four stages of gap dynamics: formation, expansion, persistence, and recovery? What notably differed among sites was not the gap size-distribution, but the relative importance of stages of gap dynamics! doi.org/10.1111/btp.13226
Fisher's alpha-diversity distribution for large trees (dbh ≥ 70 cm) and diversity distribution considering all trees (dbh ≥ 10 cm). Interesting differences, don't? What do you see through the map? dx.doi.org/10.1111/gcb.16821

@EGorgens led a team on a journey 260 km upriver and then 20 km through dense, dangerous rainforest. Gorgens had been there before. In 2019, he had come within about 5 kilometers of the tallest tree and had to turn back. “It’s terrible. I cried a lot,” he says.

@EGorgens and his colleagues had discovered hints of the giant tree in data collected by a plane that studied the rainforest with a laser instrument called a lidar. The data revealed several trees taller than about 80 meters–nearly double the typical height of the forest’s canopy. The tallest tree in lidar data was 88.5 meters.
