Forests are vital for the planet's health and human well-being. They provide oxygen, store carbon, and regulate the climate, helping to mitigate climate change. Forests are also home to a vast array of biodiversity, offering habitat to millions of species. Let’s protect our existing forests and continue increasing our forest coverage by planting. Get ready for August 23rd!

Progressing into our #GreenLegacy season, public spirit for planting is high, and we are off to a good start in reaching our target. As we plant apple trees in Chaka this morning, what’s different about this year is that the area we are planting at was filled with eucalyptus trees, which have since been removed to make way for traditional terracing practices. Our people from Harar and Konso have brought their timeless skill and practice of terracing to help with soil preservation. By collectively intensifying our #GreenLegacy within cities, Addis Ababa’s green coverage can increase, creating a balance between green and grey.

Ethiopia hosts over 6,000 plant species across various ecosystems. Approximately 12% of these species are exclusive to Ethiopia, while the remainder are found both within and outside our borders.

ከጥንት ጀምሮ የባህል መድሀኒት እውቀት ያላት ሀገራችን ዛሬም በመድሀኒት ምርት ከራሷ አልፋ ለሌሎች መትረፍ ትችላለች ።

As we approach this year's Green Legacy planting season, preparations are in full swing. Planting sites are being prepared and seedlings continuously being cultivated. Our annual program, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability, combating climate change, reversing deforestation and reducing land degradation involves communities, schools, and organizations working together to plant billions of trees.

I want to extend my gratitude to everyone who has joined the 'Clean Streets - Healthy Lives' digital telethon today. We are colorful when we come together for a collective cause. For those who haven't participated yet, I encourage you to join the #CleanEthiopia digital telethon today and in the days and weeks ahead. Together, we can make a significant impact.

I express my gratitude to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) for bestowing the prestigious Agricola Medal for our efforts towards the attainment of food security. Our focus on high value and industrial crops is yielding promising results and we are committed to our food sovereignty path.

There are great benefits we can derive if we enhance our composting practices, particularly in our urban farming efforts. Composting improves soil properties, enables strong plant system, and increases plant growth and health.

Over the past year, more than 2 billion coffee seedlings, more than half a billion fruit seedlings and more than 400 million tea plants are under preparation for the next planting season with improved focus. If we are able to plant these seedlings and nurture them to production, it will have a great impact on our overall economy and efforts to address climate change.
