great to guest post on @nofilmschool for my documentary CONFLUENCE, a resource I’ve pulled so much from over the years: nofilmschool.com/behind-the-…

Dir @ETAwashere Dir Shanhuan Manton: hypnotic images + heartfelt testimonies...reductive myths unjustly stuck on the Asian American diaspora are directly questioned by those who'd rather choose their own labels -or simply do away with them altogether.

so jw why and who decided to put Amira in a traditional Asian dress for the important family scene in #YouPeople?
that’s another damn game where Lakers didn’t get an obvious game-ending call - 2x - noncal for the face of the league. @patbev21 was more than justified bringing out that camera. we need real instant replay.
not 1, but TWO last shot non-call potential game winners. never have i seen that before #Lakers
just based on @wojespn report, i appreciate @joetsai1999 effort to educate first. Kyrie has been my least fav athlete for several years, but we should strive to live in a world that educates and rehabs as first response.
I don’t understand horror fans that go extra intellectualizing tacky, schlocky, poorly made and acted b-movie horror and obscurities, but then undermine or dismiss well polished and self-aware contemporary horror. I think it’s an inadequacy manifested to superiority complex.
i saw WAVES on my birthday. to be clear, i’m a fan of IT COMES AT NIGHT and the 1st 30 minutes of WAVES was spellbinding. but I’m still surprised to this day how little critique or vitriol this movie got for its appropriation and narrative setup.
sometimes I’ll listen to ASAP or Frank Ocean and still get pissed at the movie WAVES for quickly throwing in and cycling thru those tracks without any sacredness. For its Moonlight derivation. For all that narrative trauma only to be about a cis het yt boy. still bothers me.
BARBARIAN and RESURRECTION are the only horror films I’m recommending this Halloween season. @zcregger with some Raimi in their veins for today’s cinema.
RESURRECTION on @Shudder is one of the best horror movies of last few years. Beautifully written and shot. the opening sequence with the edit and score was something else too @andrewsemans
enjoyed I CAME BY on Netflix: a well-made, purposeful and straightforward sociopolitical horror. considering all the vapid, poorly crafted trash horror that get free pass or praise, @BabakAnvari might be one of the most currently divisive directors today on @letterboxd. crazy
‘Untold: The Girlfriend That Didn’t Exist’ is at the nexus of so many cultural touchstones. Manti Te’o is an inspiration.
