Wed. 28 October 2026| Moscow I had the privilege of participating in the meeting of African Foreign Ministers hosted by H.E. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, on the sidelines of the 3rd Russia-Africa Summit. The meeting provided an important platform to strengthen Russia-Africa relations, deepen political dialogue, and advance cooperation on shared priorities for peace, security, and sustainable development.

Our comprehensive efforts to sustainably ensure our country's peace and security have reached a new milestone today. The state of readiness being built within Ethiopia's defense forces is endowing the nation with the capability to preemptively deter aggression. In accordance with our prior agreement with the Russian government, we have today taken delivery of the first twelve Su-35 4++ Generation fighter jets. Additionally, Ethiopia will receive four S-400 air defense system batteries. I would like to express my gratitude to my friend, Russian President Vladimir Putin, for his dedication in ensuring we received these warplanes a year ahead of our agreed schedule. By equipping itself with these fighter jets, Ethiopia has taken the lead among Sub-Saharan African nations. This historic achievement further strengthens our nation's sovereignty, and it will serve as a massive capability boost that allows us to confidently continue our journey toward ensuring our collective security and regional stability in the future.

The world knows Ethiopia by name, but its full story remains to be told. Today, we tell it in our own voice, in our own words. Ethiopia’s official Nation Brand website is now live. In celebrating the United Nations Day, Ambassador Yoseph Kassaye reaffirmed the commitment of Ethiopia to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and the need to stand firm in the collective resolve to strengthen the United Nations to make the world a better place to live in for current and future generations.

Today, we inaugurate the Kechene–Ambassador–Gihon– Irreecha–Bambis Riverside Development, a 351-hectare, 10-kilometer corridor advancing our vision of a modern, green, and inclusive Addis Ababa. With pedestrian walkways, cycling lanes, and integrated transport infrastructure, this development creates a more accessible and liveable urban environment. Its children’s playgrounds, plazas and amphitheaters, sports facilities, and eight fountains and water features offer new spaces for recreation, social interaction, and community life. Parking facilities and eight electric vehicle charging centres, capable of charging over 100 vehicles simultaneously, further strengthen its modern infrastructure. Through river management, soil and water conservation, and riverside green spaces, we are bringing environmental restoration together with urban transformation. Equally important, we are expanding economic opportunities. A dedicated market centre enables residents who previously lived along the river corridor to produce, display, and sell handicrafts, while an agricultural produce mall connects agricultural producers with markets. Our vision is to build a city that is not only beautiful but also productive and inclusive; a city that serves its people today and generations to come!

Today, we officially inaugurated the Megech Irrigation Dam Project, a major milestone for historic Gondar and its surrounding community. Though delayed for years, we resolved execution challenges through the Medemer philosophy to realize this vital project. With a capacity of 185 million cubic meters, the dam will irrigate over 17,000 hectares, directly benefiting tens of thousands of local farmers. Beyond supplying reliable, clean drinking water to Gondar and nearby towns, it stimulates a broader economic growth. The artificial lake will foster urban agriculture, large-scale fisheries, and tourism resorts, creating massive job opportunities for local youth. While this success stems from rigorous monitoring, Gondar still deserves much more development. I urge the public to actively participate in its development. We remain dedicated to ensuring Ethiopia’s progress is inclusive, benefiting all regions and citizens.
