Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has emphasised the importance of stronger cooperation between Russia and African countries, urging collective commitment to translate the historic decisions of the 3rd RussiaโAfrica Summit in Moscow into tangible results.
Addressing the summit, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed highlighted three key pillars central to Ethiopiaโs national development and sustainable prosperity: food security and productivity, reliable energy supply, and skills and knowledge transfer.
He stressed that advancing these priorities is crucial to Ethiopiaโs development ambitions, underscoring the importance of cooperation in achieving meaningful and lasting results.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed also highlighted Ethiopiaโs longstanding diplomatic relations with Russia, which span more than a century and are rooted in mutual respect and shared benefits.
To strengthen this historic relationship, he said Ethiopia is collaborating with Russia on the construction of a nuclear power plant. The initiative, he stated, would diversify Ethiopiaโs energy options, accelerate the countryโs prosperity and further strengthen bilateral ties.
The 3rd RussiaโAfrica Summit, held in Moscow on 28โ29 October 2026, brings together African leaders and Russian officials to advance political dialogue and cooperation in areas including trade, investment, agriculture, energy, science and technology. The summit builds on previous meetings held in Sochi in 2019 and St Petersburg in 2023.

Today, the Medemer Book was launched in its Russian translation. I am immensely proud to have attended this historic event, which proves that the Medemer philosophy, born from Ethiopian indigenous knowledge, has crossed borders to achieve global impact.
Having already been translated into English, Chinese, and Arabic, its expansion into the Russian-speaking world strengthens its international reach and diplomatic value. This milestone demonstrates that Ethiopia contributes mature, sophisticated ideas to the global community. Just as Russia has long inspired Ethiopian scholars, this marks a complete, mutual exchange of knowledge.
I deeply appreciate the media professionals and leadership at Russia Today (RT) for their dedication to this project. This new chapter will build a powerful cultural and intellectual bridge between our peoples.

The world knows Ethiopia. But a countryโs story is always bigger than what the world knows about it.
It is the birthplace of coffee. A land of ancient human origins and one of the worldโs oldest civilizations. A country restoring its landscapes, harnessing its natural resources, transforming its cities and carrying forward a legacy of African unity and athletic excellence.
Now, Ethiopia is bringing these stories together through its official Nation Brand website, sharing its heritage, identity and aspirations in its own voice.
As the road to COP32 in Addis Ababa approaches, the message is that there is more to Ethiopia than its name. There is a story to discover.

The 12th Tana High-Level Forum, themed "Pathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation," successfully concluded today on the shores of Lake Tana in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia.
In his closing remarks, the Tana Forum Board Chairperson and President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, urged African leaders to move beyond dialogue and take concrete action to address the continentโs challenges and advance sustainable solutions. He noted that sustaining peace requires solidarity, integrity, unity, and the promotion of an inclusive society.
The forum concluded with a high-level panel discussion featuring former presidents and prime ministers. Drawing on insights from previous sessions, the closing panel sought to converge all debates, ideas, approaches, and recommendations to discuss how to chart Africa's geopolitical and economic future and highlight urgent priorities where action is needed most.

Today, we inaugurate the KecheneโAmbassadorโGihonโ IrreechaโBambis Riverside Development, a 351-hectare, 10-kilometer corridor advancing our vision of a modern, green, and inclusive Addis Ababa.
With pedestrian walkways, cycling lanes, and integrated transport infrastructure, this development creates a more accessible and liveable urban environment. Its childrenโs playgrounds, plazas and amphitheaters, sports facilities, and eight fountains and water features offer new spaces for recreation, social interaction, and community life. Parking facilities and eight electric vehicle charging centres, capable of charging over 100 vehicles simultaneously, further strengthen its modern infrastructure.
Through river management, soil and water conservation, and riverside green spaces, we are bringing environmental restoration together with urban transformation. Equally important, we are expanding economic opportunities. A dedicated market centre enables residents who previously lived along the river corridor to produce, display, and sell handicrafts, while an agricultural produce mall connects agricultural producers with markets.
Our vision is to build a city that is not only beautiful but also productive and inclusive; a city that serves its people today and generations to come!

The Tana Forumโs Special Envoysโ Dialogue officially commenced today in Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, bringing together high-level diplomats and regional leaders to discuss the evolving geopolitics of the Horn of Africa and the growing security challenges in the Red Sea.
In his welcoming remarks, Ambassador Redwan Huseen, Director General of Ethiopiaโs National Intelligence and Security Service, underscored that the regionโs vast economic potential and critical maritime trade routes are increasingly threatened by growing militarization, rivalries among foreign powers, and renewed attacks on commercial shipping in the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
He emphasized that Red Sea security cannot be ensured by a few states alone, but requires urgent and collective cooperation among regional states and reliable global partners.
As an anchor state entirely dependent on the Red Sea for its maritime trade, Ethiopia has a vital responsibility to safeguard its commercial shipping and avert emerging security threats, he added.
Following the opening remarks, high-level panel discussions are underway under the theme โRegional Security in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea.โ Moderated by Paul-Simon Handy, Regional Director for East Africa and Representative to the African Union, the panel brought together prominent African and international envoys to discuss the regionโs evolving geopolitical dynamics.
The speakers included Getachew Reda, Minister Advisor on East African Affairs; Guang Cong, UN Secretary-Generalโs Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa; Frรฉdรฉric Clavier, French Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa; Ambassador Heiko Nitzschke, Germanyโs Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa; and Pekka Haavisto, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan.
The 12th Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa is being held under the theme โPathways to Peace in Africa: Economic Sovereignty and Geopolitical Transformation,โ bringing together regional and international stakeholders to address Africaโs evolving security landscape.

Today, we officially inaugurated the Megech Irrigation Dam Project, a major milestone for historic Gondar and its surrounding community. Though delayed for years, we resolved execution challenges through the Medemer philosophy to realize this vital project.
With a capacity of 185 million cubic meters, the dam will irrigate over 17,000 hectares, directly benefiting tens of thousands of local farmers. Beyond supplying reliable, clean drinking water to Gondar and nearby towns, it stimulates a broader economic growth. The artificial lake will foster urban agriculture, large-scale fisheries, and tourism resorts, creating massive job opportunities for local youth.
While this success stems from rigorous monitoring, Gondar still deserves much more development. I urge the public to actively participate in its development. We remain dedicated to ensuring Ethiopiaโs progress is inclusive, benefiting all regions and citizens.

I had the chance to speak about Ethiopiaโs CoP32 presidency during an event organised by the Delegation of the European Union to the United Kingdom and the Grantham Institute at the Royal African Society.
I have assured participants that as the diplomatic capital of Africa and the home of the African Union, Addis Ababa offers a natural setting for dialogue between countries, regions and perspectives.
Ethiopia intends to use this position to encourage inclusion, build trust and advance a shared commitment to climate action.
I have also reiterated Ethiopiaโs position for Africa to be recognised as a partner in shaping climate solutions, not simply as a region in need of support.
Africa faces substantial climate risks, but it also has important opportunities to contribute to the global response through renewable energy, ecosystem restoration, sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient development.
Ethiopia will work with African partners and the wider international community to ensure that COP32 is inclusive, constructive and focused on practical outcomes.
