My 6th grade teacher gave me Never-Look-Back Confidence after my first creative writing assignment. I met with her years later to thank her and tell her what that meant to me at that time and throughout my life.

Several years ago I stood in front of a room filled with students introducing myself.
I was incredibly frustrated and embarrassed - couldn't recall the word 'director' in that moment of introduction.
Earlier today a colleague neurologist highlighted that diminished recall is a common sign of brain aging each one of us experiences.
Here's 9 strategies to help you to slow down the aging of your brain:
1. Exercise regularly - 30-60 minutes of moderate aerobic activity several times a week
2. Maintain a healthy diet - a good example is Mediterranean-style diet rich in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, fish, and healthy fats
3. Get adequate sleep - 8 consecutive hours of sleep per night help clear waste products from your brain and consolidate memories
4. Stay mentally stimulated - challenge your mind through reading, courses, puzzles and games
5. Remain socially active - our human interactions are essential in decreasing stress, depression and memory loss
6. Manage cardiovascular health - pay attention and control your blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels
7. Avoid harmful substances - avoid smoking and limit alcohol
8. Consider supplements - fish oil, cocoa flavanols are just a few supplements beneficial for your brain
9. Maintain daily routines - create and stick to regular activities to provide comfort and stability for your brain

After I was convicted of murder and sentenced to 26 years in prison, when the earth dropped out from beneath me, and global shame rained down on top of me, I had my first ever epiphany.

A great framework to sell with a story:
1. This was the situation
2. Here's the problem
3. Here's why it was hard to solve
4. Here's our solution
5. Here's how it makes life easy
6. Here're the results
7. Here's how you can get it too
Less selling, more storytelling.

Opportunity doesn’t knock just once. It knocks all the time; though you may not recognize the sound. Pay attention. Opportunities are everywhere and often overlooked.

If you think that no one is around between now and January because of the holidays, I have news for you, no one has "been around" since March! Stop procrastinating and start marketing. The bank doesn't procrastinate about collecting mortgage payments.

The reason so many speakers are having business difficulties these days IS NOT the pandemic, but the fact that they see themselves not as experts but as people who simply stand up and entertain for a while, get their applause and evaluations, and go home.

24-hour anger sabbatical: Never respond to anything in the heat of anger. Give yourself a day, talk to others. Road rage is bad enough, but life rage is a killer.

Ask for a referral specifically by name—"Please introduce me to your counterpart, Jan Stevens, on the west coast—and you'll raise your success level by at least 50%. Never ask, "Can you give me some names?"
