European aviation authorities faced a second major wave of bomb threats on Thursday, 5th November, as passenger aircraft travelling between several countries were diverted, escorted by military fighter jets or subjected to emergency security inspections.
At least 27 flights were affected, according to Reuters, with incidents reported across France, Italy, Belgium, Bulgaria, Poland, Austria and other European countries.

Lieutenant General Christian Freuding will become Germany’s highest-ranking military officer in February 2027, assuming command responsibility during the country’s largest defence expansion in decades. His experience directing military assistance to Ukraine provides Berlin with a commander familiar with modern drone warfare, but the challenge will be translating battlefield lessons into operationally ready German forces.

Polish security services have charged six people over an alleged operation to move ammunition components into Russia’s Kaliningrad region.
Investigators say the network operated for more than two years, exposing the challenges of enforcing military export controls across Europe’s borders while Moscow seeks to sustain weapons production during its war against Ukraine.

NATO’s decision to select six counter-drone solutions from French manufacturer Alta Ares reflects the growing importance of relatively inexpensive interception systems.
The procurement initiative draws directly on lessons from Ukraine, where mass-produced attack drones have challenged conventional air defence economics and forced militaries to reconsider how they protect troops and critical infrastructure.

The Royal Navy has successfully launched one-way attack drones from HMS Queen Elizabeth for the first time, demonstrating how relatively inexpensive unmanned weapons could operate alongside F-35B fighter aircraft.
The trials form part of Britain’s wider effort to transform its aircraft carriers into platforms combining conventional aviation with autonomous systems.

In the light of what appears to be the end of Donald Trump’s political career, it is worth considering why a potential DeSantis presidency could present Europe with an opportunity to rebuild its relationship with Washington around military strength, shared strategic interests and a more balanced NATO alliance.

Democratic control of Congress has unsettled American and European defence markets, raising questions about President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.5 trillion military budget and the future of several major weapons programmes.
The implications could extend across NATO procurement and transatlantic defence cooperation.

European manufacturer Destinus says it has produced more than 1,750 Ruta cruise missiles and is approaching an output of 300 a month. The figures suggest a change in Europe’s defence industrial capacity, but military planners face a separate challenge: turning higher production into sustainable operational capability.

NATO is developing a more offensive-minded approach to conventional defence, centred on the ability to destroy the military infrastructure sustaining an attack rather than relying primarily on stopping enemy forces at the front line.
The shift reflects lessons from Russia’s war against Ukraine and growing concern that traditional defensive methods could prove inadequate against a large-scale assault on alliance territory.

The election has implications beyond Bulgaria’s domestic politics.
As a member of both the European Union and NATO, Bulgaria participates in decisions concerning sanctions against Russia, military assistance to Ukraine and the security of NATO’s eastern flank.
Iotova has consistently favoured diplomatic engagement with Moscow and has opposed sending military assistance to Ukraine.

🇧🇬#Bulgaria: On 1 November 2026, Bulgaria completed the set – pro-Kremlin government, Prime Minister and President. This means that Progressive Bulgaria now has total power over the country’s institutions, budget and policy. Many fear that the country is falling back into its totalitarian communist past.
With Yotova’s election success the pro-Russian direction of the country will be reaffirmed and her win will be used a prove that people want closer ties with the Kremlin and less cooperation with the EU. Her win will be a propaganda tool every time someone dares to question Radev’s authority.
This election evidenced that Kremlin-style techniques still work in Bulgaria, but the question now is – will Bulgarians allow Moscow to steal their future?
📢 | The EU doesn’t need to do more. It needs to do better.
MEP @ruggerorazza wants the European Union to focus on competitiveness and stronger borders, instead of taking on more and more tasks.
