Last night's school board meeting included two reminders of what makes EVSC special.
Julie Hart retired from teaching at Dexter, but she never really left. She still substitutes in classrooms, runs volleyball concessions, leads the after-school gardening and 4-H programs, and organized this year's Trunk or Treat. As Dexter staff put it: when Julie's around, things get done.
The board also recognized bus driver Cynthia Brugger, who noticed smoke on her bus Thursday morning and evacuated all six students immediately. Everyone got off safely, a direct result of her quick read on the situation and years of experience behind the wheel.
Thank you, Julie and Cynthia!
Liberty Federal Credit Union has been a steady partner for EVSC, with their latest support now extending to the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center.
Liberty FCU leadership visited SICTC recently to celebrate, including Senior Vice President of Marketing Brent Joyce, President and CEO Bill Schirmer, and board member Bob Suhrheinrich, who served as the principal from 2006 to 2011.
Thank you, LFCU!
Thank you to the 8th graders and families who spent Thursday evening with us at the Options Fair. The students and teachers at each booth talked about what their programs look like day to day, and the conversations were a good reminder of how many ways there are to build a high school experience around what you love.
If you couldn't make it, or you left with more questions, you can still learn more and apply now through December 1.

Bosse, Central, Harrison, North, and Reitz all take the field at ISSMA Semi-State on Saturday. In this episode of What's Happening with Dr. Hoover, she recognizes all five bands and celebrates the North Green Brigade's top ten finish at the Bands of America Super Regional.
Leave it all on the field. We are rooting for you!
8th graders and families: the EVSC Options Fair is Thursday, Oct 22, 5 p.m. at the Southern Indiana Career & Technical Center. Talk with teachers and students from each high school program. Options range from science and medicine to law, teaching, and advanced manufacturing.

It's been a busy couple of weeks for our North High School athletes!
For the first time in school history, North volleyball is a sectional champion. The Huskies play in the regional Saturday at 3 p.m(CST). at Mitchell High School.
Jackson Scott and Myles McCutchan beat Floyd Central 6-3, 6-4 and Austin 6-3, 6-3 to reach the Doubles State Finals this weekend.
Girls soccer beat Castle in penalty kicks to win the sectional title.
In cross country, Lincoln Willoughby finished 7th in 15:52, the 4th-fastest 5K in North history. Freshman Anderson Roman also qualified for the Regional meet.
Congratulations, Huskies!

Reitz Leadership Academy students held their first quarterly workshop today. This year's theme is activating leadership, not just talking about it.
Students started by reflecting on what they care about and where their strengths are. Then they spoke with community organizations and built an action plan for getting connected to one.
The Academy, now in its second year, will meet three more times. On February 17, students will spend a full day of service working with a community organization.
Special Kids Day at the @westsidenutclub Fall Festival is always a big one for us, and this year might have been the best yet.
Our students got the whole festival to themselves for a day, with free rides and games and plenty of festival food. Student council members and other student groups from our schools signed on as buddies, going from ride to ride right alongside them.
You could see how much fun they had in every smile, and how much the day meant to them and their teachers.
Thank you to the West Side Nut Club, our community partners, and our student buddies for making it such a good day. 🎡
Caze Elementary School has been named the recipient of the Indiana Department of Education's Excellence in Literacy Award, an honor given to just one school in the entire state.
The recognition came at the IDOE Excellence in Education Gala, and it includes a $20,000 grant to keep strengthening literacy at Caze. It reflects the work of a teaching team that plans, assesses, adjusts, and doesn't give up on a single student, and it shows in the children who are now confident readers.
Congratulations to the Caze students, teachers, and families. 💚
Enrollment is now open for EVSC's Innovative Programs.
Here, a high school student can dissect a heart, compound medicine in Purdue's pharmacy lab, finish an associate's degree before graduation, or argue a case in a courtroom
Others build competition robots or earn industry certifications in fields like cybersecurity and advanced manufacturing. For students who need school to work differently, there's a fully online option too.
Most of this happens a half day at a time, with the same friends and the same Friday nights at their home high school. It takes a district this size to build it.
Apply by December 1:

Our high school marching bands put in the hours all summer, and it has shown at every invitational this season.
On October 10, all five head to North High School for ISSMA Regionals.
Fine arts are a big part of the student experience at EVSC, and our bands show why. Students find something here they're proud to be part of.
Good luck!
