Conservation approaches must shift towards empowering communities as partners, knowledge holders and leaders challenging the current power relationships between BINGOs and areas they attempt to control (conserve) and the communities that call those territories their home.
We found that #Ecological and social outcomes associated with six roles of #Indigenous peoples and local communities in conservation governance (A and B) The ecological outcomes (A) and the social outcomes (B) associated with the six types of roles of IPs and LCs in #governance.
Our meta analysis of 648 #conservation articles found that conservation operates at lower levels of participation, analysis reveals conservation outcomes improve as community control and recognition increase.
Conservation success requires not participation but local leadership.
