There are like 8 people on here who have feelings on the permitting bill and are managing to be grown-ups and express them w/o being a jerk to people who want most of the same things but take an opposite position as them. Just wanna say I see and appreciate ya!

Across different kinds of infrastructure, BAAJA will clear procedural bottlenecks and create certainties for new development.
I published a note today flagging the big implications for transmission, geothermal, and utility investment.

Modeling permitting reform is devilishly hard. Take any models as indicative and uncertain. But the folks at @RFF are some of the most careful modelers and honest brokers out there.
Resources For the Future has released its modeling on the Senate permitting bill.
Top findings:
- Increase transmission capacity by 30% by 2041
- Would facilitate 60GW of clean energy in 2028
- Reduce carbon emissions by 1.8 gigatonnes through 2041

Midterms arguably signal the end of not only the Trump era, but also the long 2016:
• The Dem left agrees Obama was a good POTUS who faced real constraints and that median voter is mod;
• The Dem mods agree to pursue class polarization and concede party’s prog establishment/seniority system is broken.

The barriers facing the grid & clean energy are asymmetrically worse than faced by O&G.
Not only does this mean clean infrastructure stands to disproportionally benefit from BAAJA, but it’s tough to argue there’s a ton of new O&G suddenly becoming feasible.

New: The White House Council of Economic Advisers released an analysis touting permitting reform bill’s economic benefits.
Report says BAAJA would:
-Boost long-run GDP by 0.28% to 0.56%
-Cut annual electric bills by $178 to $251
-Increase annual real wages by $306 to $637

The prelim analysis I obtained found passing BAAJA would lead to 167 gigawatts of more solar being deployed, 51% less natural gas capacity being added from 2028-2035, and power sector carbon emissions falling 20% during that period. Read it here punchbowl.news/baaja-impact-…

What does permitting reform mean for solar and storage? Faster connections and more power.
For you, that means lower bills.

“I’ve spent years and a good deal of my own money fighting for climate action, and I’m not in the habit of praising anything Republicans have endorsed. So I’ll say it plainly to my fellow progressives: this is a bill we should support, and I’m asking you to join me.”
A bipartisan permitting bill is the best chance we've had to build clean energy at scale.
Progressives shouldn't pass it up. View article

Kentucky powered the USA for a century. The land we mined can power the next one if DC would let us build. Thats not partisan, it’s an American issue and why I wish Congress would pass the Bipartisan Affordability and Jobs Act (BAAJA). 🧵

We can build large clean energy projects here at home, but we have to be able to do it faster.
