Chloe Swarbrick is more likely to be Finance Minister than Nicola Willis under either a Left or Right Govt
Have you seen Labour’s manifesto? It confirms Chris Hipkins will tax New Zealanders more to pay for his reckless spending. There is only one thing Kiwis can be certain Chris Hipkins will deliver following the release of his manifesto – higher taxes to fund higher spending. After Labour previously backed away from its commitment to lift government spending to 33 per cent of GDP, it has now quietly slipped this multi-billion-dollar promise back into its agenda, hoping nobody will notice. Despite this amounting to thousands of dollars in additional spending per household, Labour’s fiscal plan fails to explain where all the additional revenue needed to fund it will come from. The inconsistencies don’t stop there. Labour also appears to have watered down its debt target in today’s manifesto. In its fiscal plan, Labour committed to reducing net debt ‘below 20 per cent of GDP over time’. Its manifesto now says only that it will reduce net debt ‘towards 20 per cent of GDP’. Which is it? This isn’t Monopoly money. Every extra dollar Labour promises to spend has to come from somewhere, and New Zealanders deserve to know how much more Chris Hipkins plans to take from them to pay for it. Labour alone means billion in additional taxes on Kiwis. A Labour coalition with Chloe Swarbrick as Finance Minister mean economy-crashing levels of taxation and spending. The choice couldn’t be clearer. Stick with National’s plan for a more secure future, or risk it all on a Labour-led four-party coalition with Chloe Swarbrick as Finance Minister.

My pick: Labour beats National on PV Left (inc OP) beats Right on PV Right wins due to Nat overhang Nat PV continues to tank. Luxon remains leader cos no list MPs (Bishop) to challenge Hipkins remains leader because of decent PV ("I beat Luxon") Luxon vs Hipkins III in 2029

Chris Hipkins claims there is a hiring freeze in our hospitals. Fact check: false. There are more than 2,100 additional nurses employed at our hospitals since 2023, and more than 900 additional doctors. We are currently hiring thousands more frontline staff in our hospitals. #LeadersDebate

Exciting to have an immigration debate in the media between 'no migrants' and 'yes migrants, but only those from europe'
Column from me in response to Eric Crampton’s piece proposing bringing in 2.5m more young Europeans over the next 20 yrs. Even if it were to be politically sustainable it would prob worsen econ performance; fiscal pressures shld be dealt with directly thepost.co.nz/nz-news/361097…

If it was weaker than expected, then, by definition, that could not be 'unsurprisingly'
STREET FIGHTER unsurprisingly scored weaker-than-expected previews, bringing in just $4M. It’s less than half of RESIDENT EVIL’s pre-release shows ($8.8M). With an $80M+ budget, it needs $200M to break even, starting with a projected $60M+ global debut.
