On this International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, the 2024 @WorldBank Report on Poverty, Prosperity, and Planet #3PR warns that the goal of eradicating extreme poverty by 2030 is out of reach. Nearly 700 million people still live on less than $2.15 per day, and a significant share of the global population continues to live dangerously close to that line, vulnerable to falling back into extreme poverty. Additionally, almost half of the world’s population lives in poverty under a $6.85 per day standard. That is 3.5 billion people worldwide, which is a number that has hardly changed since 1990. It is crucial to adopt policies that foster inclusive growth and strengthen resilience to rising climate risks in order to protect the most vulnerable.
