What are you doing to create the future of assessment? Yesterday was a great way working with The British School in The Netherlands. One of the questions we tackled was what to do about assessments when students are using AI. We are in a liminal space. Things we’ve ‘always’ done are losing meaning. Creating the future of assessment will take a variety of approaches.

How will #ChatGPT change education? Some predictions: 1. More flipped classrooms. (Video lectures as "homework," hands-on projects in class.) 2. Fewer take-home exams. 3. The rise of a new breed of oral exams. (Dissertation defense meets Socrates meets TED Talk.)

Ready for students tomorrow. This is how we start things off in my room. A few years ago I got sick of how I approached the syllabus and basic opening stuff, so this happened. If you're looking for a new approach to those opening days, here's an activity (link at the end). 1/

One of my favorite things to ask kids is "Are you stuck? Or are you thinking?" I do this because it gives them agency in whether or not I support them. Sometimes, kids just need extra time to think--and if we intervene too soon, we diminish their agency.

Poor grades do not motivate struggling students. Poor grades just makes students hate school even more. What is motivating? Patience, Reteaching, Adults that Care, Second chances, Relationships. #edchat #education – at Maryville, TN

I rebuke hate. It’s crippling & robs us of our humanity. Instead, I will lean into love. For love sustains, inspires, brings hope, & heals the deep wounds of hate. I will choose love-even for those who stand against me-for it may change even one heart & that’ll be worth it.

Instead of stations we are doing a playlist. As a group they can complete the tasks in any order.

The best way to build strong relationships with students is to engage in frequent 1-1 conversations. The challenge is finding the time to do that. The key is to design a classroom when students drive their own learning so you have the time to drive the individual discussions.
