Hannah Arendt says every ideologue is a potential tyrant. The guy with an axe to grind at the end of the bar is, statistically, harmless. Statistically.

“That’s complete BS,” said Jeff Leiden, executive chairman of Vertex Pharmaceuticals , recalling a recent conversation with a tech leader who claimed AI would cure 90% of human disease in the next seven years.
Vertex has used roughly 50 AI companies to comb through its data set of 10,000 drug compounds, Leiden said. Not one managed to generate a working drug.

On this day in 1952: a computer predicts election results for the first time.
Nobody believed it.
It saw a landslide win for Eisenhower after 5% of the voting.
Polls suggested a tight race.
Eisenhower ended up with the largest landslide in US history.

What is so bananas about an article arguing that Canada needs even more government involvement to improve its economy is that, by many key metrics, the government's economic footprint is the largest it's been in 25 years. Employment, CAPEX, Consumption, and Taxes are just a few examples I've shared in the chart below.
What does Canada have to show for it? A Productivity Emergency. Anemic private-sector CAPEX. Pitiful competition in Banking, Telecoms, and Transport. Net FDI Outflows. A 30-year low in R&D spend. Business birth collapse. Zero Equity IPOs. NYMBYs. Impact Assessments. Ethnic vetos. Mushrooming manufacturing regulations. Withering economic freedom. Censorship. Mass media bias. Historic hospital wait times. It goes on and on and on.
Canada's problem is NOT a lack of government; it is that there is way too much government involvement. They pick winners, punish productivity, suppress talent, scare away what moves, tax what doesn't and squander billions; it's everywhere and in everything.
And the results? abysmal.
It may be time for a different approach.
Opinion: If Canada wants economic security, it must tolerate a bigger government hand in business theglobeandmail.com/business…

Aaron Rodgers is a coach on the field, and so much of his communication happens without saying a word.
Here, @CharlieBatch16 Batch and I break down his game winning touchdown pass to Germie Bernard. If I can diagnose the coverage pre-snap, so can Aaron, and Charlie shows us exactly when Rodgers relayed the message to his rookie receiver.
The game within the game.

At the Oct 14th close #biotech indicators were cycling back into decent oversold condition with a plethora of new lows everywhere.
Among the top 250 of 750ish bios, 22% were within range of new 1-yr lows.
And only 18% were above their 50-DMA, the lowest reading since the early April 2025 meltdown lows. Its much worse for the bottom 500 bios.

"Narrow Market Top" setup? Only one bellwether—Financials—has confirmed the S&P 500's latest high; the others still have much ground to make up. That's the same number of red flags as March Y2K. At the 2007 top, all 8 were flashing warnings. At minimum, investors should be uncomfortable. #SP500 #Stocks
Sampling of a few #biotech indicators starting to approach bull market oversold thresholds.
1- % of Bios > 50-dma down to 23% where it bottomed in April. Down from 70% in July.
2- % of Bios > 200-dma down to 35%, down from 65% in February with series of lower highs as bios steadily dropped out of rally.
3- % of Bios within 5% of 1-Yr High down to 4%, from 28% at beginning of 2026. It was 2% at April low.
4- % of Bios within 5% of 1-Yr Low up to 18%, near the reading at the spring biotech low.
More indicators to be posted in the days ahead.

Exclusive: Canadian 30-yr bond auction on Sep 18th went OFF THE RAILS.
bond listed at 3.75% .... failed to catch a bid, government of Canada ended up needing to pay 4.2% to secure the money
and 46% of the money was foreign money.
What a Jekyll and Hyde tape. While S&P looks peachy, hovering near highs, its a dog's breakfast beneath the surface. The usual suspects $MAGS is romping, while the 493 $XMAG is spectating from sideline.
McLellan Oscillator has been below zero for month, like Sept 2018. Other breadth indicators have collapsed & Net New Lows are bear market readings. Something's gotta give. Either oversold rest of market bounces, or S&P joins bloodbath.

A brilliant new @Nature synthesis of what we know about Alzheimer's disease pathogenesis, which is non-linear, with discrete phases (Figure), and notable inflection and transition points. Also helps to explain why symptoms do not correlate with underlying pathology.
