"Fewer than 20 percent of public institutions have designated FOI desk officers, and only 91 of roughly 800 public institutions have complied with Nigeria's Freedom of Information Act." In his latest piece for Connected Development, Abdulmalik Yahya writes on how a chance visit to a water board in Maiha exposed a deeper pattern: fifteen years after Nigeria's FOI Act was signed, the machinery meant to make it work is still missing. A RIGHT TO THE BOOKS: NIGERIANS DESERVE ANSWERS 🇳🇬 Why hide behind figures when citizens are asking for clarity? The debate over Federation Account reconciliation and NLNG dividends demands more than press statements. Nigerians deserve transparent records showing how public revenues are received, reconciled, allocated, and disbursed. The Freedom of Information (FOI) Act 2011, particularly Sections 1 and 2, establishes the right to access public records and requires public institutions to maintain records of their activities and finances. Under Section 1(2), applicants do not need to demonstrate a specific interest in the information they request. Yet, transparency means little if it is not reflected in practice. Leaders and public institutions must move beyond declarations and demonstrate accountability through accessible records, clear explanations, and verifiable disclosures. The books must be open. The figures must be clear. Transparency must be practised, not merely promised. It is time for a reset. Join the Reset Movement and demand a system where public accountability is the standard, not the exception. 🇳🇬 #FiscalTransparency #NLNGDividends #Accountability #Voteseyimakinde4president #Seyimakinde4president2027 #Nigeriafirst #Resetnigeria2027 #Seyimakinde2027

The right to information is not a privilege, it’s protected by law. The FOI Act 2011 empowers Nigerians to request public records. On Federation Account reconciliation and NLNG dividends, citizens deserve clarity, documented evidence, and accountability.

This is a clear case of extortion!
Saw this on one of my Whatsapp groups. EKEDC IN DESPERATION _____ I installed an 18kW solar power system at my property in Lekki Phase 1, relegating EKEDC supply to a backup status. Since then, I have been having more frequent visits from personnel of Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), coming to check my prepaid meter. On one of those visits, the EKEDC team stood watching the meter for motion to indicate consumption. When the meter wasn't moving, they called me to say they suspected I had bypassed the meter. I told them I had enough solar power for my daytime needs and only used their supply as a backup for the dark hours. To prove this to them, I switched on my inverter bypass for about 2 minutes so my consumption would be from EKEDC. They saw the meter rotating normally. They were visibly upset and one of them mumbled something like "This ọ̀gá no wan gree us chop". They left. Today (19-Oct-2026), three of them came to my premises with a notice of disconnection. The last time I loaded an EKEDC token was in July 2026 and I still had ample units left. When I asked why they would disconnect me, they said the reason was "LOR" (Loss of Revenue). They said my slow consumption indicates a faulty meter and I had to pay them ₦112,606 for loss of revenue. I told them my meter was not faulty and that they could test it if they wanted. The lady said they were losing revenue and they had to make up for it. I didn't know whether to laugh or to be angry. I have no intention of paying EKEDC a dime for its loss of revenue due to my taking steps to protect my interest. But, I share this story for all who are investing in solar power to know that the DisCos are now desperate. They now have "Loss of Revenue" as a reason for your disconnection from their supply. It is simply that they are not making enough money from you. I am waiting for EKEDC to disconnect me from their grid before I lodge a formal complaint to the regulatory authority. We are in interesting times in Nigeria! Raphael Awoseyin 19-Oct-2026

Nigerian democracy na mockery under Tinubu. Tinubu appoint Segun Showunmi into him campaign Media and Strategic Communication Directorate, same Tinubu appoint Segun madam, Yemi Showumi, head Electoral Operations for INEC. Husband dey campaign for Tinubu to win, wife dey in charge of electoral operations inside the institution wey go conduct that same election. Out of over 200 million Nigerians, na this husband and wife arrangement Tinuburuku decide na the best formation? No need to waste time, this election no go dey free and fair? Segun no dey in that role to play, na the same segun dey threaten treason over announcing results before him wife announce them through INEC. In short, husband dey campaign for Tinubu, wife dey oversee electoral operations for election where Tinubu na candidate, citizens wey wan publish figures dem observe live, dey receive threat. Tinubu think say Nigerians na complete mumu? National election na friends and family business. Anyway, make we continue to unlook. By the time coup go happen after election rigging don finish, the only question wey go remain na who go dey on: Main list Supplementary list. Second batch and third batch. Addendum list. Reserve or waiting list. Because people must answer for their crimes against Nigeria.

This is brutal!
I am struggling with your grammar in certain respects: 1. “This is a complete nonsense.” 2. “Did Anthony Kila lied..” 3. “As a doctorate degree holder myself, it nauseating the way and manners…” 4. For those of us that truly earned our PhD Dr titles, couple with...” What university is your PhD from, please and in what field?

Change your phone PIN and lock your phone. Do not respond to any accusations that you must be hiding something. Do not always be too eager to prove that you are not. For a snoopy woman, it is a habit. Your phone being open only feeds that habit. I am Ezemmuo. I know things.

what about the wife that will go into the WhatsApp chat to read family conversation to know if they are saying anything about her?

Thanks Erol for sharing this and showing us what solidarity looks like! The beauty of it, the courage, the unity, and the commitment to one's cause! They brought tears to my eyes!
Gazeteci Bahadır Özgür’ü, gözaltı sonrası adli kontrolle serbest bırakıldığında meslektaşları karşıladı. Özgür : “Her gazetecinin başına geliyor. Hepimizin payına bir şey düşüyor. Bu fon işinin konuşulmasını engellemek istiyorlar. O yüzden de böyle toplu bir şey başlattılar”.
